It's a dire situation currently. However, I'd imagine the next Nintendo Direct (this week?) will reveal some juicy information about the WiiU Q1 launch lineup. If not, then...well, that isn't worth thinking about right now.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Guess Nintendo figures they could ride the success of NSMB and Monster Hunter for awhile, which funny enough, they actually probably could considering the massive popularity of both those games there. Or maybe they figure because they have no competition atm and not for the foreseeable future, it's not dire to crank out games, and they can build up for later in the year when it becomes more necessary.

But also Japan has always seemed to have a trickle of releases compared to other markets, especially for Nintendo consoles.

I thought DQX was scheduled for March?

As did I, but the Nintendo website just says "Spring".

At least unlike the 3DS, Nintendo released some big guns for the Wii U. That has helped it so far, and hopefully the next batch of Nintendo games get released ASAP

They won't be able to ride MH3U in Japan for long, HD version of Monster Hunter actually don't really sell, especially since this is a version of the game that most have played either on the Wii or the 3DS by now.

Nintendo is in the same launch window lull they said they learned their lesson from with the 3DS. They need to have Pikmin 3 or Wonderful 101 drop within the next 3 months but that is unlikely at this point. Given the fact that the PS3 isn't even that strong in Japan, Nintendo has a shot, especially if they can catch fire with a popular game.

Wasn't the 3DS in a similar situation though, with little support early on?

That's true, pretty much everyone was down on the 3DS, and with good reason.  The months following launch were dry as a bone.  If anything, that should tells us that you can't judge a console by the first year.  Still, didn't Nintendo say something about having learned some lessons with the 3DS?

Just because they learned leasons from it doesn't mean they have to put them into affect.

They are building anticipation (which based on this thread and other is obviously working) and excitement while allowing the total consumer focus during the 6 month launch to be on lauch titles. That second aspect was probably a factor in getting the 3rd party support of AC3, Batman and so on. Expect to be bombarded with new upcoming game titles around the time Sony and MS anounce their new systems. They are saving the buzz. Also, don't forget WiiFitU. This will likely be a major launch from Nintendo, even if most of us don't care about it. It will move systems.

It's simple really : third parties have seen their sales reduced to nothingness in the Wii era because of the crushing presence of Nintendo's first party games and their audience progressively migrating to PS360, so they must have been dubious about WiiU from the very beginning. And now that the situation is already the same on WiiU (3rd party games have almost completely vanished from the top 100), those publishers might be even less inclined to work on WiiU.
