Forums - Gaming Discussion - Google's war on Microsoft only results in consumer casualties

Well, it's kind of understandable from a business perspective why google would do this. If windows devices become huge then a side effect of that will be increased bing marketshare. Remember, google is an advertising company and they need their browser to be popular as its where 95% of their income comes from.

Having said that, it's still a shoddy business practice and I hope it backfires on them.

That's just not true.
Google search is supported by the biggest mobile browser out there....iOS. You can search google right from Safari without even going to Google.com

Anyway I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't created their own "Youtube" or "maps" yet. They got the money and they are supposedly the best software company out there.....now they're trying to get into hardware and I don't think that's working out too well for them...

*facepalm*

I know...what was your original point? I said google get 95% of their income from their browser...then you called it BS and said that Safari uses google (which backs up my point). You make no sense.

I think I know what's going on here........you are confusing the word "browser" with "search engine"........

Google's Browser is Google Chrome, they're search engine is "Google".

This is a pretty uninformed opinion IMHO, as the changes only affect non-Webkit browsers such as chrome and safari.  It's just another contest of standards and has nothing to do with google wanting to kick msft in the ass or whatever.

I find this (kind-of) funny because about 12 years ago Microsoft was screwing up the styling on MSN for anyone who used a browser except for IE, and the most common "fix" was simply to set your user-agent to report as IE and the pages loaded perfectly. Opera took this a little further, and they created rules in the browser to fix the mark-up and to have the page "translated" to read like it was written by the Sweedish Chef from the Muppets.

Now, this isn't meant as a defence of google, but I do find it funny that Microsoft is upset that it is getting burned by the same kind of business practices they invented.
