Forums - Sales Discussion - End of the year results: PS3 outsold WiiU by 59% from launch

Thoughts?

Good sales for both! 30 34.09%

Good for PS3, bad for WiiU 41 46.59%

Bad for PS3, good for WiiU 9 10.23%

Bad sales for both! 3 3.41%

I have no opinion on the matter 5 5.68%

Total:88

this isnt surprising. the real numbers to compare would be both at launch not current sales.

Wake up people: GTA5, TLOU, GOW Ascension, Gears Judgment and etc.

Who the hell would prefer a WiiU instead of PS360 that will have great games(exclusives and multiplats) this year? A lot of multiplats won't appear on WiiU.

This is why Nintendo Exclusives are the key factor to the Wii-U's success in the next 6 months, so many great games coming out on PS3/Xbox/PC, the cost of just getting those games alone can put people buying new hardware. I think I have about 5-8 games to purchase in Jan-March :|

I think hype wise it also makes a big difference to those who are not day 1 hardware purchasers. I can see my gaming time taken up by so many games, and then in April/May we have GTA, which will such the life out of the market for at least a month. Then theres iphone games, Pc (gog/steam)...  The question is whether Nintendo just worry less about the next 6 months and throw it all in when the next set of consoles come along. If Nintendo arn't careful it could be at least a year before people have something to talk about hype wise about their console. I think 2013 is going to be an amazingly interesting year.

Europe is extremely disappointing.

I get why the PS3 outsold the Wii U overall though; more games and cheaper price.

What about Wii?

What about Wii? It did quite well for it having almost no support this year.

Here, I'll highlight it.

I know what you meant. That's why I replied with that. You're just proving my point, Peh-Zeus!

No, you proved mine! Wii is way cheaper and has way more games yet it sold less.

The Wii sold less than what? The Wii U? The PS3?

Either way, no duh! We all knew the Wii would sell less this year compared to other years, it was already established. But, that doesn't mean it sold badly. For a console with practically no support and a successor on the market it actually did quite well.

Classic!

Ps3 is amazing and Wii u is poor.

Did I do this right?

Less than WiiU, with more games and a much cheaper price

We both proved that both of us are right. There were things out there with more games at a cheaper price which made PS3 d better than Wii U.

Epic argument If I do say so myself.

Oh, at first I thought this is with launches aligned.. Well yeah obviously PS3 sold more during the same time period. It has a much more established library, and its cheaper. Now this this happens again during the same time next year then it might be a bit concerning for Nintendo, but for now, still far to early to make a judgement call.

A lot of people are REALLY jumping the gun here with WiiU sales, many of whom ironically are fans of the PS3, which is perhaps the greatest example of a console that started slow and then gained momentum

Someone has to go back to school here... PS3 outsold WiiU by 41% not 59%...

Doesn't that tell you something?
It all comes back to bite you in the ass. We PS fans will likely hear very similar things early next year.

Except I don't think the WiiU is doing badly at all, it's just that others seem to for some reason. I guess it's because it hasn't had the explosive start the Wii had but then again what has? PS3 on the other hand certainly stumbled out the gate and had a huge notible decline from the PS2.

There's a big difference because PS3 had a lot of margin for improvment, WiiU has not (or much less). PS3 retailed at 599€ when Nintendo chose the cheapest price they could afford to keep WiiU attractive. It should not see any price cut soon whereas PS3 will most certainly have at least one more. It's current gen tech so they can't make the differnce on power and developers are already counting it out. WiiU hardly meets the conditions for a PS3-like destiny.
