Yes BUT, how easy is it to hack a PS3 ?
I've heard you have to downgrade the firmware and crap like that. I mean accessibility is also an issue. Maybe lots of people don't know how to hack their PS3s

MoHasanie said: Is there a reason why Xbox 360 sells more software than PS3? I'm guessing its cause, 360 owners who don't have Xbox Live, complete games and then don't see any reason to continue playing the game whereas PS3 players play games for longer? Or could the rumor that many PS3 owners just use their console as a blue ray player true? |
well several things .. firstly vgc is far better at tracking sw sales in US/UK than everywhere else (and are still not really accurate in those) and coincidently those are 360's main markets
secondly the average 360 user probably has more disposable money as he is from US/UK and hence can buy more games
thirdly piracy in US/UK is relatively low (compared to sales)
we never get SW shipment data from MS either (only "attachment rates" sometimes), so it's hard to tell whether or not SW sellthrough looks in line with the other consoles
Funny thing is, even with piracy, isn't the tie ratio (Software sold per console) for the 360 the highest for all consoles?
Checking.....
It's the 3rd highest behind the original X-Box (11.01) and PS2 (10.66) with a tie ratio of 9.97. PS3 is 6th with a tie ratio of 8.91.

you can literally buy a usb stick which hacks the console for you completely online for about 10euros actually some sites offer the software on the usb stick just to put on a removable drive and put in your console. Update it via the net put the games onto a usb harddrive and play them?. You think that is harder than checking the drive manufacture number of your 360 to see if it is even possible for it's drive to play copies, often take the harddrive out of it's holder to connect it to the PC to drop files onto and then go off and get dual layer dvds to burn off most of the games since they're all too big to fit on standard cheap dvds. Really don't wanna explain more how it's done and linking to Piracy software/hardware on here isn't allowed, but trust me if you wanna hack a ps3 all you need is hacking tools such as.... google :D

Who did? the OP for suggesting the ps3 doesn't have piracy or me for posting that it does? Everything for the most part has piracy on it, it's really a non issue in terms of sales at the end of the day. I gave someone a present of a Wii with a Harddrive fitted to it for xmas with almost every Wii game on there, that person would never, and I mean NEVER have bought a Wii so are those games on the harddrive stolen money that Nintendo would have gotten? no just bandwidth from torrent sites for me + the sale of a Wii that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

I don't think that is really a valid way to gauge installed bases as 360 owners that want to watch Netflix require a gold subscription.

The 360 has far more of a piracy problem than the PS3 at least if you look at the lists of the most downloaded games.

do you have a link to said lists? because I did a bit of searching but all I really could end up doing was a bit of speculation earlier in the thread based on the activity of a torrent on pirate bay atm :D the same kind of bad maths that ofc suggests that anyone who would download an ISO of a game would have been a buyer of said game or even knows what to do with an ISO other than double click on it, shrug and recycle bin it :D

The OP was bragging about how xbox games would sell if we count pirated games, And it is nearly impossible to pirate ps3 games you'd have to dig up einstein from his grave to do that, you get it now. cheers
