Wiiu barely broke 200k this week.

OP=Fail.

It did 247k - that's "barely breaking 200k"... It's doing much better than the launch of either of the 360 or PS3. Try again.

Exactly. Nintendo better pander to the casuals because they aren't going to win any hardcore battle with Microsoft and Sony. They played it smart and came out on top with their last console. I suggest they follow suit and commercialize the hell out of it.

So I don't know why you consider Wii Fit U, the sequel to two 20mil+ sellers, 'meh'-worthy.

Dragon Quest is a huge franchise in Japan, with 20 million-sellers in that region alone. Pikmin is an easy million-seller, as is Lego. Monster Hunter Tri for Wii sold almost a million just between NA and Europe, and 3 Ultimate is the first HD Monster Hunter game localized for those regions. Rayman is a well-known series and there's a lot of hype for Legends. The Wii U's first-half lineup for 2013 is nothing to sneeze at.

The only battle Sony and Microsoft will be having in 2013 is the battle for second place... again.

Going by the numbers PS3 took a much bigger drop than the Wii U did but nice try on the spin. Everyone knows sales drop after the holidays. A drop from 300k to 200k to me sounds better than a drop from 900k to 300k per week.

Obviously, PS3's numbers were twice of the WiiU's, it's kinda obvious it would drop harder.

WIth all the games coming on the PS3 after february I cannot see their numbers being any less than 300k per month.

I cringe everytime I hear the word 'casuals' because it seems like a degroratory term gamers use to talk about 'normal' people.

You're right however, and not only that, Nintendo needs to put resources and actual effort into what brought them success with the Wii.  Just churning out the same games aren't going to cut it, they need to outclass everything they did on Wii in every regard if peple are to be convinced to pay $350 for a new system in this economy. (350 in Europe)

I dont consider those games quality, I consider them smart gimmicks. Remember this is a videogame site and this is about sales. Nintendo hasnt been selling big over legit titles, which is why they were never taken seriously by third parties. The casuals buy it, play it and put it in the closet plain and simple. The main people still using their Wii's today are the Nintendo core which are the same loyalists who bought the Wii U in the first place. Without a Wii mote being in the forefront they wont have the demand to beat Sony and Microsoft. I think sales have proven the point that Nintendo cant beat them without luring casuals. How in the world could a console sell double what the competition did at one point and still have less use?

The way things are going....I feel a change in the winds this coming new gen.

Stop trying to bring context. We all know that the Wii U is a failure and being profitable with the purchase of only one game won't stop Nintendo from being doomed and make iOS games in the future.

You really should rethink your position about the 'casuals'. They're people like you and me, and and they are probably gaming's most demanding customers since they aren't affected by the slick industry marketing.

I just read this and I love this exerpt because it speaks the truth:

"The Wii was a brilliant idea; a controller so easy and intuitive that it drew a slew of non-gamers into the world of videogames. Now, after having sold consoles to millions of non-gamers, Nintendo seems to be done with their converts, and is putting out a controller with the very collection of triggers and buttons that kept casual gamers from playing videogames pre-Wii. Sure, the Wii U still has the Wii’s remote and nunchuk, but there’s little talk of anyone designing for them, meaning there’s no reason for casual gamers to even consider upgrading to the new system. This leaves Nintendo in a fight with Sony and Microsoft for the very core gamers who consider the Wii beneath notice."

Yeah, I'm sorry... I'll try to leave reason and logic as I enter this site henceforth ^^

I learned the difference between myself and casuals after highschool. Two different types of gamers. I game as a hobby and they dont. They dont want to learn how to use a 13-16 button controller just to play a game. They want simple, instant gratification like people got in the arcades when they were younger. Why did people always circle around the kids playing killer instinct and street fighter in the arcade? Because when skill became involved that when the casuals either watched in amazement or ran off. Nintendo used to sell well to the legit core until you know who came. It hasnt been the same since.
