I really can't think of a single franchise that has poor from start. I must say though that Star Fox Adventures is the only Star Fox game that I have thoroughly played and enjoyed. Possibly because of the many Zelda elements.

Never liked the more modern Donkey Kong games.

What would you say if I said that I've never finished Ocarina of time?? what would you say if I admitted that I beat WindWaker and liked it more than Ocarina? I also have not beat Majora but I'm trying to. What if I said that it was maybe my favorite Zeld(Majora) ever even though I've never beaten it yet?

Own it on VC.  I also own Majora's Mask (on N64) and Link's Awakening DX (on 3DS VC) but I have yet to play them.  I buy too many video games.  I like adventure/puzzle type games but I get frustrated when I can't figure a puzzle out.  I suppose I should just "cheat" and look at a walkthrough on GameFAQs. 

The first Zelda though makes me feel like an idiot.  I get a sword and no directions so I walk around for awhile.  I probably made it through the first few dungeons when I was a kid but I couldn't even find the first dungeon playing it on VC awhile ago. 

Sorry Pokemon fans, but i just cant seem to get into those games :(

Uh...? I would say that you can't go wrong with Zelda. I like Wind Waker a lot, too. More than Ocarina? Maybe. Wind Waker nailed some stuff Ocarina missed. Majora isn't one of my favorites but it's good and I understand why so many Zelda fans prefer it.

The reason I suggested ALTTP isn't because I think it's the best in the series, but one of the most accessible. I would never recommend Majora's Mask to someone who hasn't played a Zelda game before.

@The_dengle: Well, if you're not a fan of the series (or the game didn't "click"), you're unlikely interested in enduring the water temple in OoT, as there's really nothing interesting to do, only pointlessly running around the dungeon, unlike LttP (however, if Seth doesn't like any of the Zeldas he mentioned, it's unlikely he will suddenly like any other).

I'm really not a big Kirby fan...
Every Kirby game I've ever played reaches a point where I stop enjoying it...
Though I was enjoying Kirby's Return to Dreamland; I stopped playing that one not because I wasn't enjoying it, but because there were other games I got at the time that had higher priority...
I'm also not that big on the Advance Wars series...

I don't like/care about Kirby/Pokemon/Animal Crossing

I like Zelda but I'm not great fan of it either (thought I haven't played LTTP and MM yet).

So far I haven't played a Nintendo franchise I really didn't like. However, I also have not played f-zero, starfox, fire emblem, animal crossing, nintendogs, (and more), yet.
