Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Remedy Teases Alan Wake 2

Something tells me this will be on Xbox 360 next year.

Do we really need Alan Wake 2?

I haven´t played Alan Wake but it isn´t a huge franchise. Mybe it would be a smarter thing to try to establish a new franchise.

No, it isn't huge but "Remedy Entertainment" the creators of the original Max Payne and The Fall of Max Payne are (or were).

My take is that, just like "Rare", Remedy is another studio that MS dragged down to the gutter.

I am eagerly awaiting for a sequel on the PC.

Do you ever have a good thing to say?  You act like a game that has sold 1.3 million on 360 and we dont even know how much on PC.  Yeah those are bad numbers right? So what is some of your favorite games?  They better sell better than Alan Wake or else they are being dragged down by their publisher in your opinion.

There is nothing worse than an uneducated response. Microsoft doesn't own Remedy. They just own the publishing rights to Alan Wake. Also it is obvious Remedy likes to take their time with releasing games. I mean they only have to my knowledge 3 console releases and those 3 releases are also on PC. O believe they have an mobile game to.

So I don't know how Microsoft can drag Remedy down when they are not part of each other.

BTW Remedy is/was working on a new facial animation software for Alan Wake 2 for over 2 years now. So they obviously are putting in a lot of time for their next release.

uhhh you do realize that Remedy is 3rd party, right?

And if you believe that MS dragged the studio down to the gutter why are you "eagerly awaiting" the sequel? O.o

Because the original didn't come to Ps3 is my guess.

MS owns Alan not Remedy. Alan Wake is notorious for its long development cycle which started right after Max Payne 2 had ended.

Also notorious were the open world radical concepts that Remedy had for the game, it was after all the studio that brought "bullet time" to the world. Which all were left behind after it was announced exclusively for the 360.

It goes without saying that you are absolutely wrong in saying that Remedy likes to take time with their games since the stellar Max Mayne 1 & 2 each took about a couple of years.

Alan wake is the game that took 6 years to make by the studio that made the gaming world drop their jaws with the legendary (and mutlimillion seller) Max Payne and in turn it sold like 1.3 mil. Yeah, let's pretend that is not draggin into the gutter. Let's pretend its a wild succes.

And no my frustration with MS and what they did Remedy has nothing to do with the fact that i have a ps3 at them moment but the little fact that i was there when the Max Payn demo hit the PC and i was there the game hit the shelves in the middle of my summer exams in 2001.

I don't normally say this, but this post was a straight up epic fail. Heavy on emotion, and really light on facts. Rare isn't in the gutter. You might not like their new focus, but the Kinect Sports series has sold over seven million copies. The Viva Pinata series has sold two million copies. Nutz and Bolts sold over seven hundred thousand copies, and the same with Perfect Dark Zero. You basically have to go back to 2005 to find a Rare game that did poorly, and that was Kameo. Even the two DS titles they put out did pretty well for portable games. One of those sold over a million copies.

Microsoft didn't drag this developer anywhere they didn't want to go. Not only doesn't Microsoft own them, but they probably sold a couple million units of the game/expansions on their console, and Microsoft obviously didn't prevent them from porting it to the PC. Something  try as I might I wouldn't expect either Sony or Nintendo to allow to happen if they had the publishing rights. Speaking of glass houses and all if you want to talk about manufacturers running third party developers into the gutter. I seem to recall two studios that made PS3 exclusive games that went bankrupt shortly after releasing their games. You know something tells me that wasn't coincidence.

Chances are you will be eagerly awaiting that sequel for a while if Microsoft picked up the publishing rights again. They don't seem to block ports, but if they do pick up the tab they seem to expect some timed exclusivity. So you will probably end up having to wait a year or two. A real kind of shame too, because I think the sequel will probably outshine the original in a lot of ways. I liked the original, but it was rough in a lot of places. I hope the expansions, and where they went with American Nightmare means they are going for more exposition, and character development.
