If the heyday of the two of them had coincided precisely, this would be an interesting question. The two reached roughly the same level of pop-culture penetration, but Pikachu is still widely known (and his source franchise still runs very strong), so easily Pikachu

Mario hasn't been in a TV series for 16 years. And 15+ movies. I pick Pikachu. He's been in the Thanksgiving parade float a million times, for god sakes.

Yeah, but Mario is the first character people think about when you hear gaming.  He's probably as noticable as Mickey Mouse.  Pikachu isn't as well know to older people.

That's the thing. You have to think about gaming to think about Mario. You don't have to think about gaming to think about Pikachu. Those extremely successful and popular games are just something on the side for Pikachu.

I'm really not buying a theory that older prople know Mario better than Pikachu. They have grandchildren.

I would say Pikachu is bigger than Mario too. You ask my patents, who are grandparents, and they even know Pikachu and Pokimon - and none of their grandkids ever played with it. It's just so popular in culture you can't help but be aware of it.

Like Justin Bieber and Angry Birds, even if you don't want to know about it, the media always puts it in your face.



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

I don't think so. People generally don't search with those terms together. If you look at suggested searches, all the Sonic ones show sonic racing (it's assuming you're looking for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing).

My 22 years old sister knows Mario, she used to play the crap out of Mario Kart and regular Marios. She used to have a Pikachu poster in her room. She has no idea who Sonic is. I bet there are millions of people like her out there.
