Mine, I would'nt go as far as to say it is the best game of the year. But MY goty would be Kid Icarus:Uprising. Not because it was the best game, but it was so refreshing, funny and entertaining (+plus de fact that it was a hell of a good game). When I dig up nice memories I had playing games this year, memories from that game is the first one to come to my mind.
Honorable mention to Xenoblade.
What?! I can't hear you over all this awsome! - Pyrrhon (Kid Icarus:Uprising)
Final Ultimate Legendary Earth Power Super Max Justice Future Miracle Dream Beautiful Galaxy Big Bang Little Bang Sunrise Starlight Infinite Fabulous Totally Final Wonderful Arrow...FIRE! - Wonder-Red (The Wonderful101)
I really enjoyed XCOM. I haven't played the older ones but this game is making me think about going back and playing them. It's probably my GOTY. My runner up would be a three way tie between Dishonored, Halo 4, and The Walking Dead.
honorable mentions to xenoblade, NBA 2k13, Sped Ops the Line, Total War fall of the Samurai
10. Sleeping Dogs
9. Borderlands 2
8. Final Fantasy XIII-2
7. Gravity Rush
6. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
5. Dishonored
4. Persona 4 Golden
3. Fifa 13
2. Far Cry 3
1. MASS EFFECT 3
Shitty ending or not, ME3 was bombastic, so intense and emotional, it's no doubt my GOTY 2012 and the only one that classifies as one of my favorite games ever in this rather mediocre gaming year.
Runner up: Far Cry 3. As sandbox, it's close to perfect. It does almost everything right. It keeps you entertained with its vast world, lots of side craps to do, which stay fun for very long and also has a more linear, scripted main path, which delivers more intense moments and is also very entertaining.
PS: Dissapointment of the year: Assassins Creed 3! Worst AC ever.
PS2: Journey is a nice little game, but GOTY? Are you serious?? What an insult to those games that entertain you for hours and hours!! Come on, it looks like this industry is trying too hard on being "artistic".. I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, I did like it and it is truly a unique experience, but....We're talking about videogames, I want to have fun, as long as it's possible. Journey just doesn't deliver as much as others.
Assassin's Creed III
The story was lacking compared to Ezio! However, there's a plethora of sand box content. If you ignore the main quest it shines as a deep rpg. Side Missions grant you cool new abilities, ships are upgradable, sea combat is outstanding, taking over fortresses, and the homestead missions are rich and rewarding.
I hated the game until I went nonlinear. It's an open world rpg and you can hang people.
Journey easily. Still great after completing it 12 times with different people.
Runners up: Pixeljunk 4am / Far cry 3
