Journey

Journey is one of those exceptional games that makes for an unforgettable experience. Beautiful art direction and graphics were twinned with a grammy-nominated soundtrack and an intriguing multiplayer concept to create the most memorable game of the year.

Even though Journey doesn't last very long, you'll be mesmerized the entire time. There's a feeling of awe that comes with traversing the different environments in the game, as you slide majestically along the sands, sunlight pouring through between the columns of deserted structures.

Not content to complacently rest on a single emotional note, there are sections of Journey that throw you headlong into positions of helplessness and powerlessness, something rarely explored in the medium. It's an emotional rollercoaster right up to (and including) the finale - a finale which brought many to tears.

All that and more is why Journey is our Game of the Year for 2012, and the first download-only title to ever claim the title.

Congratulations, ThatGameCompany, and here's to another great year of gaming to come in 2013.

it's strange you're the first one I've seen who has a non-extreme opinion of it.  Every time I see it win a GOTY award people either seem to say "it was amazing/emotional/artistic" or "crappy, boring, and pretentious"

Does this count towards the GOTY totals on that site that I can't remember?

The Critics' Picks - 41
The Readers' Picks - 5

Journey - 32

I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I beat the game yesterday and I liked it but is nowhere near my GOTY list

This counts to the overall GOTY yes.

But there is NO way Journey is getting to The walking dead. The gap is simply too large. I've been following that site for a rather long time so I sort of.. "know" how it works xD. Nah I don't but its common sense.

It will be interesting to see if it can hold its ground on spot 2 or go to spot 3.

Nevertheless, the only PS3 exclusive games to reach Top 3 has been Uncharted 2 (spot 1 in 2009) and MGS4 (spot 2-3 shared with GTAIV in 2008). So kudos and mad respect to Journey and the devs for joining these two games and the other acclaimed titles in the Top 5 for the generation.
