Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Games You Stopped Playing in 2012

Inspired by IGN's article, this thread is about all those games that we were all eagerly expecting, but sadly, failed to live up to our expectations. This year, we got highly anticipated sequels and some incredible New IPs, some of them you loved... and some of them you didn't.

This thread is about any game you started playing this year, thus, it's not limited to games released in 2012. That said, this is my personal list.

...........................

Game I stopped playing: Xenoblade Chronicles.

Why I was excited for it: The Wii was always known for it's lack of any meaningful JRPGs, and finally getting a huge and complete experience was something to be excited about. Rightfully so, this game caught my attention and peaked when it was close to release. It seemed everything was going to be perfect and I was in for a treat.

Why I stopped playing it: Initially, this game was everything I had hoped for. The world, the story, the characters, I loved it. Sadly, I steadily lost interest the more I played, there were a lot of things I just couldn't bear and got to a point where I was forcing myself to keep going because I didn't want to hate this game. I suppose it just wasn't right for me.

Likelihood of returning to it: Low. Maybe someday I will play it again and love it. But I'm not counting on it.

........................

Game I stopped playing: Rayman Origins.

Why I was excited for it: To be honest, I was impressed by the user feedback and the critics' opinions. Since many dared to say it matched Mario's endeavors, I really wanted to try it out.

Why I stopped playing it: Unlike Xenoblade, I hated this game as soon as I got it. The controls were a mess, the level design was repetitive and inconsistent. The levels were a total bore, the music was poor and the artstyle was confusing and sleep inducing.

Likelihood of returning to it: None. I still have the game, but the disk would be more useful as a frisbie for my dog.

.........................

What about you all? What are those games that you just couldn't love even if you tried?

Game I stopped playing
- Assassin's Creed 3

Why I was excited-
Huge fan of the series. And AC3 being a main game, not a spin-off or extra like brotherhood & revelations. I expected a truly amazing masterpiece of a game.

Why I stopped playing
- Lots and lots of bugs. camera continuously freezing/locking. Controls felt like a step backwards. Worst targeting system ever. And the children.... OMG The horrible, horrible children.

Likelyhood of returning to it
- None. I wish they would make a prequel with Haytham Kenway's early years as an assassin. Before being a templar. Then, I just might buy the next A.C.

"Stop playing" is something i almost never do, unless i feel that the difficulty is so great as to be not worth the time investment, or if the game is just that mediocre

There are 5 games that i've stopped playing:
Bomberman DS: mediocre
Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns: Insanely difficult final dungeon. If i had just kept cracking at it long enough, even losing, i would have gotten enough exp to break through, but it just wasn't worth it.
Final Fantasy III: This is part of a stupid "Point of No Return." The put the point of no return before the final dungeon area, and not before the final boss, and there's a clear difficulty spike past the Point, but you can't grind back there, and it was too hard to grind before the point, so i threw it out.
Super Mario RPG (people are gonna kill me for this): There's this one boss that you have to beat with Mallow alone. No. Just no.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Also point-of-no-return problems. Namely this idiotic boss that has a no-cost, unlimited use "Full Heal" technique, meaning that at any point she can render your entire effort up to that point completely moot, and you're entirely at her mercy. This would not be enough to discourage me on its own, but the problem is there's a boss after her that, if it beats you, you have to go back to her. Fuck that.

Coming 2015

Super Smash Sisters

Game I stopped playing: A lot of games.

Why? Because I had some new games =D!

What is more sad that the pile of games I even did not start playing is bigger :s.

Are you talking about Dodo in the fight with Valentina? That's odd. Dodo always picked Geno from my party, and it was a total breeze with him.

I was up in the sky, Mallow's home. I forget what its name was, but Dodo sounds right

I don't know if you ever plan on returning, but if you do, just swap Mallow out of your party and make it a Geno-Peach party, the bird will always pick Geno, therefore you can give him a defense heavy armor and with his naturally strong attack the fight will be much easier.

Game I stopped playing: Gravity Rush.

Why I was excited for it: The Vita hardware looked (and still is) very promising. With only Uncharted and Mortal Kombat I was eager to expand my library with worthy games. When I saw Gravity Rush, it looked like a fantastic action RPG by SCE Japan Studios.

Why I stopped playing it: The game was semi-interesting upon starting it and playing it about an hour or so. The controls were a bit annoying to get used to. After playing about half way through the game (Chapter 11), It still had not sucked me deep into the story.

Likelihood of returning to it: I will at some point because I have to finish all my games. In the meantime I have Rayman and LittleBigPlanet.

e=mc^2

All Call of Duty's. Black Ops 2 is the first one since Call of Duty 4 that I didn't buy in the year it came out, and I've stopped playing the others online altogether. I've completely overplayed the older ones and the newer ones have bought anything drastically different to the franchise. I'll probably come back to Call of Duty 4 in a year or so.

Xenoblade people were hyped about it I even participated in that OP rainfall
It just never clicked for me. I got about an hour and half in and IMHO it was kinda boring.
Ill return to it when i start clearing some of my games, dont want to give up especially considering all the crap i gave NOA for not intially releasing it.

Ninga Gaiden Sigma Plus wasnt really hyped but i always wanted to get the game and i figured hell, might as well get the lastest version for Vita
Goddamn is it hard, i forgot how much. I havent given up totally i just dont play as much.

Parasite Eve i love the game, but i cant kill that spider boss, but i will try again eventually

FF13 Not exactly new, but this is the only game I really gave up on. Im not going to list the reasons why, but its a damn shame as all I have to do is kill the final boss. But i dont care enough to do it. I might just watch the ending on youtube i dont know.
