Forums - Gaming Discussion - oh my god. 95 % - the best rpg on this generation, its coming.

Right now it looks like Persona 4 Golden will take the cake for JRPG this gen (and probably last gen as well). This game looks good though. I played the demo. The combat didn't really sell me though because the demo was too short. I'll probably end up getting it since PS3 lacks exclusives. This game and Xillia are my two most anticipated titles of 2013.

It's not that JRPGs are dead, its just that they need to escape the dreaded cliches that they've relied on for a decade. They have a lot of titles that are original and unique though (i.e look up anything Atlus) people just need to find them since they don't have the commercial backing of some of the bigger titles. WRPGs will probably see that in a few years (I still can't tell the difference between Mass Effect and Oblivion gameplay-wise).

Anyways, I hope this game does well, polarizing between West and Japan in video games is seriously getting old. But then again...Japan still doesn't buy Xboxes.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

Persona 4 is a ps2 game, so how can it be the best jrpg of this gen? Adding some content to make the Golden version doesn't make it a new game.

Either Skyrim or Mass Effect 2 are the best RPG game this generation.

Best RPG's got to go to Persona 4: The Golden, Mass Effect 3 or Mass Effect 2.

It was released a month ago on the Vita so its this gen. Persona 4 was released during this gen as well but on a previous gen console so I'm not even sure how to interpret that.

Hey, Nintendo released SMB3 on eShop. It's the best 2D platformer for 8th gen.

Final Fantasy VI was released on the GBA in 2006/2007 (JP/US) does that make it part of the DS/PSP generation?

Persona 3 Portable was also a "remake" of the original Persona 3/P3 FES with added features and tweaks specifically for the PSP. Does that make it a new game? They had to change quite a bit to make P3P on the PSP. I'd say there are more differences between P3/P3P vs P4/P4G. Persona 4 Golden actually looks a lot like P4 from the screenshots I've seen of Golden.

(I have P3 FES and P4 on the PS2 and P3P on the PSP.)

Yes it does, seeing as it was released on the DS/PSP. That game would not be considered the best rpg of that generation seeing as how it's age didn't hold over well. Persona 4 Golden was released on the Vita, which is a current generation console, and it is also one of the best reviewed games on the system and for JRPGs in general.
