Forums - Gaming Discussion - Signs of sales problems- Nokia

The WSJ and several mobile news websites have recently noted that the Lumia is being sold at steep discounts.  Tmobile for example is giving the 820 away for free with a two year contract, and the 920 can be bought at $40 from amazon with a two year contract.

The discounts are meant for the holidays frequently, but the fact that they remain, indicates that either Nokia or the carriers are worries about sales, and will just give a discount to keep the phone moving.

Oh well it don't matter, it's a great phone that should be more widely available as it's cheaper

Correct, all this article could possibly show, are the first signs that this ain't no comeback for Nokia.  If we keep seeing this kind of thing, then it would seem more certain, which I'm sure that you would agree to as well.

No surprise to see discounts on the 820. Its software is frozen at 7.8, right? Time to get rid of that stock.

And didn't the 920 go on sale for $99 in the US? Retailers discounting to $40 doesn't seem like that big a deal to me. Especially when that retailer is Amazon, the money-burningest retailer in the world. Plenty of popular phones have ~$50 discount sales. If everybody cut the price, you might have a case.

Microsoft will just buy out Nokia and ship their own phones.

Well, thee reception is out there that it might be a sign of slow sales, just saying.  The hosts of that financial network CNBC were discussing this and even commented that it might be too early to tell, as per my last post tht this could only be the first sign of things.  It is however, very telling that Nokia has lost marketshare in its smartphones over the last year by a large margin, and only does well with its dumb phones.

All phones come free with 2 year contracts in the UK including iPhone 5/Galaxy Note 2/S3 etc. Maybe the market in the US is just starting to catch up?
