Another day, another rumor regarding the Microsoft Xbox 720 next generation video game console. Reports are now coming in that the console has gone into beta testing, and prototype kits are making the rounds to video game developers.

Twitter user, SuperDae, the same user who leaked the image of Xbox Kinect 2, is the source of the latest rumor. Now, if the leaked Xbox Kinect 2 image is real, then there is a chance the Xbox 720 is truly in beta stage, which could mean gamers could be in for a treat when E3 2013 takes centerstage next year.

Xbox 720 rumors began making headlines quiet regularly since the beginning of 2012, and got even more as 2012 comes to an end. The first big rumor was about so-called leaked details of the console that found its way on the Internet. Information found in this leaked document suggested that the Xbox 720 would feature 8GB of RAM, Blu-Ray disc drive, Xbox Kinect 2.0 built in, AR Glasses and a new controller.

Another rumor not too long ago claimed the Xbox 720 CPU is expected to clock at 1.66GHz, which is slightly faster than the slow CPU found in the Nintendo Wii U. Obviously, all rumors should be taken lightly until Microsoft or well known game developers make any form of official announcement regarding the specifications and features of the Xbox 720.

E3 2013 is right around the corner. Everything gamers want to know about the console should be revealed there along with the launch date and price. That's if rumors of the console launching in time for holidays next year hold any merit.

Xbox 720: Leaked image of new Kinect 2 appears online

Posted by: Matt Liebl

Developer DaE who previouslyposted images of the next Xbox, codenamed Durango, developer's kit has posted a new image that allegedly shows off the new Kinect 2 for the Xbox Durango, or better known as Xbox 720.

At first look, you'll immediately notice the much improved depth perception; you can see the individual fingers of the person on the left despite being close to the body.

It also looks like the next Kinect offers a much higher-resolution than the current motion-sensor. The figures have a much sharper outline. It's a rather large improvement over the current Kinect which sometimes blurs parts of your body and has problems picking up quick movements accurately.

The images haven't yet been validated, but the fact that they come from DaE do add some credibility. In addition, http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-10-kinect-2-image-outed-by-genuine-durango-devkit-source">Eurogamer's Digital Foundry also claimed that multiple industry sources working on next-gen games have confirmed the image is genuine.

Microsoft is supposedly planning to bundle the Kinect 2.0 peripheral with its next Xbox console.

DaE will allegedly be attending PAX, though if I just leaked images relating to Microsoft's new console I'd be wary of hanging around the Microsoft booth.

Interesting, I wonder what effect would these rumored specs have on PC ports (CPU)

<< NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 || AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz || 8 GB RAM >>

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime

what is the fear people have if the next XBOX is clock at 1.66GHz?? no reason, it only mean the system is more efficient.

Nextbox $499 at launch? doesn't sound to bad. let the war begin again. Kinect2 could be better then sliced bread.

Early rumors point to it having 8 - 16 cores. 16/8 cores @ 1.6GHz sounds feasible for a console >_>

16 AMD cores @ 1.8GHz has an 85W TDP. Not likely.

I find it funny how 1.25 CPU is slow and 1.6 is fast. Only in the internet... its those 350Mhz that make the difference!

It might be easier for people to say Nintendo is slow and Microsoft is fast! Its about as obvious that theres no logic to it.

Well it also depends on what type of architecture they are using for the CPU, not just the clock speed.

So far it turns out the 720 will be quite the beast. But I really do have to wonder, if Nintendo are just barely breaking even with the Wii U, will MS be able to launch this at $500 or less without taking a significant loss? This seems quite a bit higher tech than the Wii U.

They are also more than likely going to have a subscription model similar to phone plans as well for people who do not want to pay $500 up front.

3 cores @1.25 is (not a little bit, a lot) slower than 8 or 16 cores @ 1.6
here in the internet and everywhere.

i don't get what is so difficult to understand...
