I was considering buying one of these after seeing the price had fallen to $99 but the bad word of mouth about them is making me weary (flickering and other issues).  I've also heard it doesn't come with a remote which seems pretty strange considering they're selling it as a TV and that most of the controls are in the back, is that true?

Why buy Sony electronics when you can get the same quality in Samsung at a much lower price? At the end you buy what makes you happy. That's the reason beside some gaming, movies and musics I avoid Sony products.

you can always sell the DS3 that comes in the box and buy 3rd party controller... you know that right?

Sony makes great products no doubt but they are often over priced too. Most of the stuff they make now has been losing money because their competitors make good products as well but at a cheaper cost. They are living and dieing off of the brand Sony. Hopefully they get it turned around though. Sony is one of my favorite companies hardware and software wise.

That would partially solve the problem, though frankly I'd rather they just incorporate Move into all their games/consoles from here on in. I'm not a fan of the standard controller setup of PS3 or 360 and the 6th gen consoles. (Not separated, no pointer)

Sony always makes quality products, no doubt about that. They were arrogant about product prices before, but I guess they are learning and adopting now and making competitive prices for their products (look at their phones etc.).

I hear you, man. The only major electronic in my house that isn't a SONY is my computer monitor (Samsung) and cell phone (LG) because my carrier doesn't have anything SONY.

Got a Vaio, Pulse Elite, Vita and PS3.
