Forums - Sony Discussion - why sony releases last of us on ps3

- Help the PS3 have strong legs into next gen, like PS2 did into this gen .
- Establish an IP on this healthy system with a 70m + userbase, and then take that established IP over to the PS4.
- Lower risk releasing on PS3 (development is cheaper, userbase is much larger). Simple cost-benefit analysis here.
- Simply not needed for PS4, already have a jam packed launch window lineup (this one's more wishful thinking)

Any one, or a combination of those factors.

The Last Of Us is not a system seller because is a new IP.

Anything with Naughty Dogs name on it is a system sell.

Well not really, since the vast majority of people who are familiar and confident with ND already have PS3s (and thus experienced their work). Should give a little boost though.

oh and as jay said, leave argh_college alone... not worth it.

To be clear I'm talking about selling a ps 4, yes it will give ps3 a boost. At the bolded.that's why any ND game will sell a ps4, the vast majority of people who where familiar with ND also owned PS2. Can you name a ND game that didn't do well?

Jak X: Combat Racing... lol, granted that doesn't really count. I can however name ND games that weren't system sellers, e.g. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

BUT as a PS4 title and not a PS3 title (which I initially thought you were saying) it would probably be a system-seller, as unlike Uncharted: DF which followed a declining, releatively small franchise, TLOU is following a hugely successful, growing franchise.

Lol Combat racing, I forgot about that game. I do wish ND could get crash back. As he's the only one, under the right developer that could become Mario like. It would be nice to see if they could bring him back to greatness.

hmm... I dunno dude. Crash is a very 90s character if you know what I mean (jorts, converse, mohawk)... maybe if done right. I think Sony's best bet at a mascot is Nathan Drake. If UC4 is a great game (which I'm sure it will be) and they give it a massive marketing push (50-100m, which I'm not so sure about), it could be Playstation's Master Chief. I'm gonna make a thread about this. :)

Lol. Go for it! Well there's also sack boy, and Kratos Don't think there anything wrong with having multiple faces for PlayStation and maybe that's more fitting consider Sony has the most variety in their line up.

I think it was a good move

It's only 4 games and you have no idea what's in store for the PS4.

4 ≈ One
