When MS has a console that dominated the previous gen and then wound up in 3rd 2nd place the next gen, that would be a logical comparison.

Fixed that for you.

So, If MS ends up in 3rd next gen, but maybe one year finishes 50% for a year, MS guys won't celebrate?  I bet they would.  And I would give congrats to MS, like I always do when they reach a milestone.  Too bad quite a few MS guys just can't bring themsleves to do the same for Sony.  Always downplaying any good news for them.  Ah well, I suppose if that is your prerogative.

What fix? Are you saying Sony hasn't been in 3rd place this entire gen?

Because it will wind up 2nd.

So? It's completely irrelevant at this point.

No it isn't.  Maybe profit wise but a console with a lower install base (less people buying cause their friends have) and being more expensive this late in a console span means people recognize the value of free online and superior software.  It shows consumer satisfaction and confidence in the brand going into next gen.

If there were satisfaction and confidence in the brand then people wouldn't wait until the gen is over to jump in. Not to say price isn't a valid factor. Sony has a much, much bigger fanbase than MS in video games. It only makes sense that as the console ages and drops in price, people who were waiting specifically for the PS3 will then buy one.

A more realistic and less opinionated reason for PS3 potentially overtaking 360 is Japan. You can point to opinions about software and price, but the Japanese won't buy an American console and that has made the difference for Sony. In fact it has more than made up the difference between the two in the last three years if you trust this websites numbers.

Well at least you're not one of the crazy folk predicting it will outsell the Wii

Was probably singing a different tune before this gen played out.

Nah. I think it will come relatively close to the Wii (90M+), but it won't outsell it.

Europe and other regions have and will continue to help the PS3 overtake 360.  Once PS3 starts to be sold in all the countries that PS2 was and has continued to sell in (ie once it goes under $200 next year) it will really begin to go ahead probably since Sony has established itself much better in those regions while MS focuses on the most profitable areas (US and UK).

A reasonable prediction from Turkish! That is something that I like to see. The defensive people in this thread however...jesus christ.

It's quite possible that PS3 will reach 50% marketshare of current gen consoles next year. Heck, it's more than likely.

Reasonable, but utterly meaningless.

thats the point.

Next year

- it will have its lowest sales for 4 or 5 years.

- It's sales will mean it will never get above 35% marketshare this gen.

Those are also true and reasonable for next year, will those be celebrated too?

Please don't try and give currency to a Turkish thread.  Its beneath you.

it isn't defensive posting, it's incredulous posting.

Everything is meaningless to you. Why would the fact that it will decline be celebrated? Marketshare is important, or so you've been saying these past months, isn't it?

Marketshare  is important when it's relevant. i.e in a new or maturing market or for a new console.

Here? In 2013? for the dying consoles? Not in the slightest.

The marketshare for the gen is important yes... that's a 3 way tie already and will remain so.

Hooray!

PS3 has long legs and  everyone knew Wii and 360 will die in 5yrs. 360 was saved with multiplats, and this gen rise of FPS, COD. But with 360 failure rate I guess it is somewhere in 40-50 million relevant console sold.

As I said in other thread PS3 has many more years left. PS3 has been most selling console for some years and for next 5years this trend will continue.

Deal with it.

The "ps3 has been the best selling console for some years". Well this year will make it 2, so not quite.

ps3 will be best selling console "for next 5 years" LMAO.

PS3 is the better selling console since PS3 slim compared to 360.

PS3 is obviously the most relevant console sold aswell due to 360  failure rate.

PS3 has already past 360 in relevant console sold due to 360 failure rate and will pass 360 with broken, redundant 360 included, arcade models.

PS3 is going to sell more than 360 untill they stop manufacturing it.

You've got to be kidding me.. your argument is literally invalid due to the fact that the Xbox 360 has a higher tie rate.

Yay!!!

Yeah great. I can see how your posts will go in the future, best to ignore you.

Deal with it man. PS3 is already past 360 and in next 5 yrs is going to sell more.  Unfortunately it is difficult to know how many relevant 360 console are sold.

I would think 20-30million 360 are broken so far if not more

@ Wh1pL4shL1ve_007

I am staying facts. The whole world knows they sold defetive console. It is impossible for a hardware to have 40-60% failure rate.
