If there were satisfaction and confidence in the brand then people wouldn't wait until the gen is over to jump in. Not to say price isn't a valid factor. Sony has a much, much bigger fanbase than MS in video games. It only makes sense that as the console ages and drops in price, people who were waiting specifically for the PS3 will then buy one.
A more realistic and less opinionated reason for PS3 potentially overtaking 360 is Japan. You can point to opinions about software and price, but the Japanese won't buy an American console and that has made the difference for Sony. In fact it has more than made up the difference between the two in the last three years if you trust this websites numbers.
