Forums - Gaming Discussion - Android US market share continues to decline, Apple hits record high

Just last month Apple managed to retake the number one position in terms of mobile OSmarket share in the US, overtaking Google’sAndroid in the process. Today, it appears that trend has continued through the month of November, with Apple reaching its highest eversmartphone market share in the United States.

Figures released today show Android falling to 41.9%, a decline of nearly 11% over the previous year. On the other end of the spectrum, Apple now sits at a staggering 53.3%, a rise of 17.5% year-over-year. While Androidhas managed to reach nearly 60% at one point, this is the first time in the Cupertino company’s history that it has passed the 50% mark. For comparison, Microsoft’s Windows Phone is having a tough time reaching 3%, having been stuck in limbo since last year. RIM, on the other hand, has all but fallen completely off of the map, dropping nearly 6 points in just 12 months.

In various other parts of the world Androidcontinues to top the charts, constantly setting records for rate of growth. However, it appears as though Apple is once again dominating the US market. Android may be losing the battle, but at least it’s winning the war.

Interesting, but why does Apple only win in the USA? I really have no clue, but I hope there won't be a "herp derp patriotism" post any time soon^^

For every such news there is 3 android news where it is gaining marketshare.

Until apple starts innovating again..Android will win in the mobile market because of its price and Microsoft will win in tablet as well as enterprise because of its features as well as device options.

Windows Phone and iOS are the only ones increasing their marketshare

Isnt this kind of obvious as iphone 5 launched? I'm sure when galaxy s4 launches ut will swing back again.

Apple releases new phone, sells a bazillion phones as hipsters rush out to own the latest and greatest phone, and Apple's marketshare increases dramatically for 1 quarter; over the next 3 quarters, a variety of Android phones are produced by countless manufacturers to meet the needs of individuals throughout the entire market and Android's marketshare slowly climbs to a new high.

Yeah, it only has 75% of the worldwide smartphone market ( http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2012/11/01/android-grabs-75-0-market-share-in-q3-followed-by-14-9-for-ios-and-4-3-for-blackberry/ ) and at the rate it is growing it will only represent 85% or more within 2 years ... It's doomed

You are delusional. For everytime people claim Apple fails to innovate or is too expensive they should take a good look on what Microsoft and Samsung are doing. Their reactionary and misguided approach won't last long in the market. Specially Microsoft who I see as a company who will be completely irrelevant on the long term.
