I'd say the bad economy is more of a reason, but each to his own...

Sorry but I really don't understand why for some of you are so hard to accept that Wii U have a very good start. It's not in the same level as Wii but very close and much better than the HD twins. The numbers say that.

So what is the problem with you???

Maybe they are afraid of the WiiU building up such a large userbase in the 1-2 headstart it has that it will win the next generation before it even started? I have no idea :D

As I said in another thread, that means nothing because WiiU has a short-term strategy. Strong launch line-up to lure the core gamers (which failed), 2D Mario to appeal to the traditional fanbase and Nintendo Land + gimmicky controls to reach as many casual gamers as possible during the holiday season. In January WiiU's momentum will disappear like Cinderella's dress, to never return again because 3rd parties will ignore a system on which they sell nothing.

If WiiU can't get ahead of the competition now, it is doomed. PS3 and 360 have possible price cuts for next year, while WiiU's price was set as low as possible so as not to deter casual gamers. Also, PS3/360 launch comparisons make no sense since PS3 retailed for 599€ at launch, while a WiiU costs half that price. Needless to say, core gamers like 3rd parties will heavily favor PS4/X720, and future known multiplatform games are not coming to WiiU.

Therefore for WiiU, it's now or never. From the sales, it's clearly never.

Really? Even though I agree with the momentum of the WiiU vanishing in January I can´t agree with second half of the statement. Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego City Undercover and Game & Wario are promising games, all of them will release spring 2013. I believe the WiiU will pick up the momentum again and might even sell more than now, you really shouldn´t underestimate the lineup.

Not a bad line up, but compared to the games not on wii-u, it's horribly outnumbered:

DMC, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, MGS:Revengence, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and GTA5. That's without 360 or PS3 exclusives, then it's even worse with Gears of War Judgement, God of War Ascension, the last of us and beyond two souls. Wii-U wont begin to outsell the 360 and PS3 continuously until it has more games released for it.

I need to agree with this. Wii U's launch lineup consisted in multiplatform games  which are huge on other consoles or that came way too late after the other versions were released on the 360/PS3.

There is barely no incentive to buy a Wii U for who Nintendo themselves called "core gamers". In order to succeed as Nintendo expects Wii U needs exclusives from third parties, many of them and mandatory big games or frm well known franchises. Stuff like a 6 month old game with added content won't make a difference and will simply scare 3rd party devs away due to the abysmal sales, like we've seen with most of the software so far.

For instance, ZombiU which is an exclusive and big game, has sold reasonably well. However, Batman: AC, Ninja Gaiden 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Mass Effect 3, Warriors Orochi 3, Darksiders 2 are all bombs and it's really unlikely that a core gamer will buy a Wii U based on games like those. Simultaneously released multiplatforms are faring a bit better than the ones just mentioned, but still will do abysmal vs. the 360/PS3 versions (CODBO2, AC3). And even then, Q1 of next year the line up is not encouraging either, with only Aliens: Colonial Marines as an important release and Wii U owners missing on the games you listed and then some more.

I honestly don't believe that Wii U will be able to sustain its sales with games like The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Monster Hnter 3. Those are niche games and that kind of audience is NOT the audience Nintendo was aiming for with the launch of Wii U. I think their objective failed as far as attracting the kind of gamer they wanted.

With the release of Wii Fit U and Sing Party, along with the usual second tier multipltaform games like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Movie licensed, party and sports games, they will start to build up an audience similar to the one the Wii had, but with barely no big games from 3rd party games in the coming future their desired audience will simply not be present.

I'm still confused with Nintendo's statements about having learnt the lessons from the 3DS launch and still overshooting their forecasts and making similar mistakes. It's not as easy as releasing late ports of successful games. Wii U needed big exculsives at launch to craete fuzz among the gamers community. The casual buyer might buy it because it's the new thing, but the "core gamers" as Nintendo themselves called them, are already satisfied with their consoles and looking forward to even more games than Wii U has to offer. If they fail at the beginning it will be VERY difficult to convince 3rd party devs to make games for their console in the future. And Nintendo will also be making a mistake if they decide to release less first party games to give the others a chance, that ended up killing the Wii.

Edit: And where are the new IP's from Nintendo's side?? Those new games that make clever and unique use of the Wii U's features. This was a clear mistake on the 3DS launch and it looks like it wasn't redeemed.

He's still mad because Nintendo took away Bayonetta 2 and also because Ayane appeared on the Ninja Gaiden 3 Wii U version. Those are the ones I remembered that really pissed him off.

I think it was Kasumi that pushed him over the edge :D

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I agree with you here but you are completely wrong saying they haven't learned from 3ds. Launching new ips with a console is asking for failure. With any console launch it is better to give your core fanbase what they want to get it off the ground. That is why mario was the best approach. Launching this mario game means they can give the real 3d one more time rather then rushing it. And it isn't sending pikmin 3 (which would only appeal to the gamecube fans) out to die either.

Everything else is balanced out greatly. For games like assassin's creed or mass effect, you don't know unless you try. But this is a big big improvement over 3ds.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Correct. It took some time, but I came to accept the Bayonetta 2 situation.

I get your point, but they had launched consoles with new IP's in the past, more specifically Wii Sports was a new IP which ended up being what sold the Wii.
There's nothing similar here, or at least if Nintendo Land tried to be that I don't think it has quite succeed perhaps because tablet or dual screen play is not really something new in the gaming world and because Nintendo Land sounds too generic and there's lack of information for the general audience concerning what this game is about and how it is played. Motion controls was an unexplored field and the advertising campaign was way better.

We can't say that much about WiiU sales now.We will have to wait until next year and 2014 to see if the WiiU sells very good or not.
