Trine 2 dev says it would be tough to squeeze ‘Goblin Menace’ DLC onto “older platforms” like PS360

December 20th, 2012 Posted in News, Posted by Austin, Wii U

“Technically speaking, the Goblin Menace expansion is not “exclusive” to Wii U as such. It’s exclusive as of right now because we haven’t had enough resources to look into getting it to XBLA and PSN. The levels in the expansion are quite a bit more demanding than the original campaign, so we’re not quite sure if we can squeeze them onto the older consoles properly. We probably could if we did some minor changes to the levels, but that can end up as quite a bit of work…”- Joel, Frozenbyte team

I know that technically speaking it’s better for more people to have access to a game, but man, it sure does feel good to hear stuff like this! He also went on to say that they don’t really like PSN or XBLA, and definitely prefer the Wii U’s eShop for releasing content:

“Truth be told we’re not very big fans of XBLA nor PSN at the moment, their processes are a bit too heavy to our liking and we also need to go through the XBLA/PSN publisher ATLUS, so it’s all a bit more complicated. And frankly there’s a big psychological factor as well – We had a very stressful time getting the game onto XBLA and PSN, and we feel like it wasn’t really up to us, so we dread having to do that again.”

There are a lot more comments from Joel, but I’ve yet to read through them all. As I do I’ll post em up!

The more indie developers that jump onto Nintendo's eshop the better. Nintendo should focus on catering towards them more than the big third party companies. At least these small developers will deliver.

I would expect nothing less of the Wii U. It's the newest console so it should be able to handle modern games better. I'm sure with some tweaking they could get it up and running on the PS360 and I'm sure they will. Even if they don't like XBLA and PSN they know where the money is.

If Sony and Microsoft don't change the way their only services work, they might lose the Trine 2 devs and they might go and develop exclusively for Nintendo's home and portable console, along with PC. If that happens, I could see them losing a lot of support from indie devs.

It's nice to know that, the people complaining about the Wii U hardware was wrong and that the Wii U is truly next gen, that can handle some decent, demanding expansions.  Even if this does come to the PS360, it won't be the same as the WII U or PC version.

nobody commenting here! good things about nintendo and nobody like that

Trine is not a big seller. That's all.
It's hardly worth it to make the DLC available for PSN and XBL and they see potential sales in the WiiU version as there isn't much competition on the platform.

~50k sales after 7 months on the platform.
PSN might be a little higher since the first one was PSN/PC exclusive, but not by that much.

They should skip consoles all together and make the series PC exclusive.

Damn, comments like that made me buy Trine 2 on WiiU
