Capcom: Resident Evil 6 sales 'certain' to fall short

Publisher lowers company-wide sales expectations for fiscal year based on "weakened" sales of new shooter and delay of Monster Hunter 4.

Resident Evil 6 shipped over 4.5 million copies at launch, but this strong debut could not be sustained. As a result of this, and other factors, Capcom is lowering its company-wide revenue and income expectations for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.

"In the Digital Contents business, sales of the major new title Resident Evil 6 were initially strong but subsequently weakened. As a result, sales for this title are certain to fall short of the plan," Capcom said in a statement.

Capcom was previously targeting ¥105 billion ($16.8 billion) in net sales for the year, but is now expecting that figure to be down ¥11.5 billion ($1.8 billion) to ¥93.5 billion ($15 billion). Net income was previously forecast to come in at ¥9.8 billion ($1.6 billion) for the period, but is now anticipated to total ¥6.5 billion ($1 billion), or a drop of ¥3.3 billion ($529 million).

Capcom also announced today that 3DS game Monster Hunter 4, which was previously planned to launch by March 2013, has been delayed to summer 2013. This delay was also cited as a reason for diminished company-wide sales forecasts.

That's not too bad, looks like profit at least. I don't know why Capcom thinks gamers will keep eating their shit up if the games drop in overall quality as time goes on though.

3.6 according to VGChartz.

Their projections were always way too high about the game though. At one point they expected it to sell 10 million. The problem is, the game wasnt as good has they  expected it to be. I think there were marketing problems in comparison to RE5 where there was a strong component of sex-appeal drawing in consumers, but also because of the terrible choice of controls and subsequant bad reviews. Its not a bad game im sure, and i am gonna get it still but i wasnt pleased with what i tried with the demo. Why do Japanese always feel the need to reinvent the wheel just cause it was invented by westerners? I know its dificult to admit to them, but the Gear of War/Mass effect controls are as best as 3rd person shooters get. Difficult to copy the controle scheme i suppose.

In my opinion though, they should've kept to the RE4/5 formula of tanks controls. Its their trademark, it works. RE revelations was awesome with it aswell. RE6 just took a wrong turn. Its time to back up and steer the franchise in a different direction that what they did.

Oh calling it a flop is an exageration though. It didnt perform as good as expectated but it was still a sucess.

This is what happens when you don't respect continuity and unnaturally evolve a series gameplay.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Spot on. Seeing as how the game likely made a lot of profit, I don't see how it's not a success, or how it's a failure.

It flopped cause it was pretty poo. Thats a lesson to be learned Capcom.

Haven't we been over this? If Capcom had to cut its revenue projections because of this game's performance, then it's a failure. Much like Wii Music was almost definitely a failure even though it almost definitely scored a healthy net profit for Nintendo.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Expect more sales as RE fans buy Super RE6 edition than gold edition and finally Super awesome shoot me in the face RE6 ultra combo zombie edition. Should add up eventually.
