Forums - Gaming Discussion - No console has ever been announced at E3. Why Xbox 720 and PS4 will be announced before E3

With my latest thread I see a lot of people don't believe the next gen consoles will be announced before E3.  This makes no sense to me what so ever.  When has E3 ever been known to announce a new console?  That is right, think about it, they don't.  They give details about the new console they just announced, but they do not announce it at E3.  Look at this list below.

Original XBOX was announced in may of 2000 by Bill Gates

Xbox 360 was announced on MTV in May of 2005 and then released that november

PS2 was announced in March of 1999

PS3 was announced in May of 2005

PSV was announced in January 2011

WiiU was announced April 25, 2011

Gamecube Successor (Wii Codenamed Revolution) Was announced March 2005

Nintendo DS was announced January 2004

3DS was announced on March 23 2010

Gameboy Advance was announced on September 1, 1999

PS4 was announced February 20th

NeXbox is going to be announced May 21st

Do you see a pattern here? E3 is when they give details, not announce.

They will definitely announce it before E3 to get the hype started and to persuade viewers into watching E3 to find out more about the console.

Vita was announced on the Playstation Meeting 2011, in january

Thanks.  I was having trouble finding the date for the Vita

The Wii was announced in 2003? Saying you're working on the next console and announcing a console are two different things. If that was the case, the PS4 was announced years ago.

So...

Xbox -- May 2000
XB360 -- May 2005
Next Xbox -- May next year

I also hope the system will have a major exclusive at launch...not talking about something as big as Halo was for the original Xbox, but something that makes more impact than Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero.

Fixed.  Now look

yeah i often wonder why people talk about e3 announcements, they announce the consoles earlier and show first tech demos with that or even the first game stuff.

after e3 2012 you could read so often "but it will be to late to announce the consoles at e3 2013 to release them end of 2013", why exactly did people think this is the next possible opportunity to show the next gen?

Yes, that was it's codename.  They give details at E3 which usually includes games, name, features, and release window.
