Forums - Politics Discussion - Economic inequality biggest reason for violence. Not gun laws.

Once again the USA is up there, it just shows how the flaws of capitalism like economic inequality effect a society. You never see a rich man turn violent.

A brief History of the US

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

You're right, all wealth should be redistributed completely evenly so that there is no such thing as economic inequality. Then there would be no violence! Problem solved.

Please tell me you're not serious.

No he is taking this thread to a extreme that no one brought up or even mentioned. Basically he is flaming and trying to mislead the thread.

It's called playing the Devil's Advocate.

"A whole bunch of garbage"

The entire f*cking thesis is based on one graph.  I'm not sure that income inequality is correlated with violence in a STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT way.  This is garbage until I am shown that there is a statistically significant correlation.

Also, the U.S. looks like an outlier.  And that line of best fit...can you prove to us that this line is correct?

Tripe.

tl;dr

but looking at that graph with the red line i have to say sorry i don't see it.

They seem to just have drawn that line not even looking at the dots, to make it seem like thats actually the case....

If ever, what you could tell looking at the first chart posted in the OT is that economic inequality isn't the main reason for the high homicide rate in US, since if you look at the red line (which stands for the linear regression) you can clearly see how the US point is mostly unrelated to it.
In other words, while the other countries, are placed not far over or under the red line, the US point is placed far over the line, you can even compare it to Portugal, which is not very distant in terms of inequality, still the homicde rate is almost half lower. This doesn't mean that the homicide rate is unrelated to inequlity but it means there are also some others quite effective variables altering the result in the US.

Where's the graph of gun laws vs homocides? In order to have an argument you have to have something to compare it to.

All this says, is that economic inequality leads to violence. It doesn't say that gun laws have no effect on homocide rate.

Go communism...?

Not at all. Universal health care. How about a International Minimum wage, safe working habits. If you don't want to do this then you don't get to join the international market for cruelty to your people. Republicans have done a great job pushing extremes in people's mind. WOW!!! Be really scared, there going to take you guns and hey lets call people names that are no where close to where there ideas lie. Not you, just ranting.

Please explain how you are going to enforce a minimum wage of, say, $8 per hour (less than Britain and most US states), in India or China, where quite often that is how much people earn in a week. Different countries have different levels of prosperity and different living wages. What you propose would be insanity.

You say something that even growing nations can afford. You keep the same currency, you just ajust. THis wouldn't be hard. The UN has rules already.

Yes I agree. People are not thinking about other issues that come into play. I never said, oh nothing else will affect it. I said the biggest reason for violence. Gun laws could be second in line.
