yeah indeed, if a game wants to be nominated it has to be better as all the other games people can buy for that console. if it isn't better or even worse as some multi-plat games, the multi-plat games deserve to get the goty award for those consoles because these awards show people which games are the best on the console and developers get the appreciation they deserve.

if they would give a game the award even if there are 10 better games people would think this has to be the best of the year for their console.

if people think exclusives have to be looked at differently they should ask for an extra award as "best exclusive games of the year" or "best exclusive games for xy console" and not asking for the chance to beat multi-plats even if they are worse.

If the same people are doing the voting, wouldn't the overall game of the year be the same as the platform-specific game of the year? In other words, if Halo 4 wins the best game of the year, wouldn't it HAVE to be the best Xbox 360 game of the year?

Yeah and I always wonder what the sites that do this kind of stuff are thinking. If I were to hand out GOTY awards, I'd keep it consistant. If a multiplatform game wins overall GOTY then it would be GOTY for all the platforms specific awards too.

a multi-plat  game can win goty but not as example ps3 game of the year because not everyone can or does vote for the ps3 games. the goty award will probably get a vote from everyone which increases the chance of a multi-plat game to win because people who didn't play let's say heavy rain probably won't vote for it but for the ps3 award, more people should have played it percentual.

so yeah, multi-plats have maybe really a small advantage for the goty award but i think this happens very barely or not? and at least the awards for the specific platform should make sense if ony people vote there who have a ps3.

We had a similar issue with our own awards while trying to figure out nominees bit that's because I find the platform awards kind of boring if they're filled with multiplayer because then they're all the same and don't seem to serve any purpose of they're own. Makes me think there should be a single award for ps360pc kind of like many sites put handhelds all together in one award, or the platform awards should only be made of exclusives so at least they'll all be different.

They do.  It's called the game of the year award.  that is why these are genre or platform awards

Then what's the point of platform specific awards?  It doesn't make a lot of sense, especially when you have a platform GOTY that is different from your primary GOTY.  Let's say Borderlands 2 won the Xbox award and Halo 4 won the GOTY--where is the logic in that?  Or how about if Dishonored is nomiated for the Playstation award but not the Xbox award, while Borderlands 2 is nomiated for the Xbox award but not the Playstation award?  We've all seen stuff like this happen.

The point is that it is the best of the best games on that platform.......Not the best exclusives.  people can hype up sony all stars all they want but it definitely shouldnt be on any award list for example.  And this isn't VGA awards where you have people voting for the games.  That always turns out to be biased and incorrect.  This is editors choice awards. And GoTy will have everything from all platforms, not just one.

Most gaming websites uses votes among their editors and situations like I described happen quite often.  And I'm not sure how voting among dozens of people is more biased or how an opinion is incorrect.  Platform awards that include everything just seem superfluous to me.  If a multiplatform games wins GOTY then it should, by logic, win ALL awards on down, which it often doesn't.

I definitely agree with you on the logic part, but Im just talking about niminations.  And that problem occurs more in voting methods like VGA is what I meant.

It's crazy. Not only that, when a multi-plat game is in the same genre as a big name exclusive, that multi-plat is embraced by one community and hated by another community--even when both communities have access to the game! I remember when Prototype came out about the same time as inFamous. Xbox owners championed the game like it was their answer to inFamous and PS3 owners attacked the game like it was trying to steal their puppy--and BOTH communities had the game! Why gets so pissed about an optional game!?

It's okay to have preferences but, in the war to prove your $300 plastic toy box is better than my $300 plastic box, people seem to lose their goddamned minds.
