Do you know anything about the Vita at all? If Sony eliminates one model, it should be the 3G one. Nobody is interested in it, you can't play multiplayer games online without Wi-Fi anyway, so why bother? You think people really want to bother getting a card just to be able to check trophys online and browse the shop or internet on a Vita? $3 is a lot when you are to cut price and lose money on every console sold, especially for a feature nobody cares about. Sony has to cut the costs, and this is the best way. The only reason I can think of justifying this model was to entice mobile operators to offer a 3G Vita instead  or additionally to a smartphone. Can't really say it was worth the effort, so now they should just forget about this model.

Oh, that's really sweet. Yes people use mobile devices to browse the internet, youtube, skype, facebook, twitter, etc. etc.

By next year the cost to manufacture the Vita will be down and they won't be taking a loss like they would have by doing it this year. 3G is an optional feature and there are those who prefer to have the option and those who actually choose to use it. People spend thousands of dollars a year on phones that do this, it isn't outrageous that the Vita offers it too. The iPad has 3G option and those sell well. The 3G card is a small cost in the overall breakdown of the console.

You aparently don't know anything about the Vita. It is a gaming tablet handheld with apps. Some people perfer to have 3G for their mobile devices, it is very common.

BS. This is a console. Nintendo proves on every single step, that a console has to be a console and not a behemoth trying to do everything else but gaming. Every potential PSV customer already has a mobile device to browse Internet on. I'd rather just make a hotspot with my mobile when I want to use Internet on my Vita than getting another card for 3G Internet on Vita. Can't see that happening anyway, since I have a device to browse Internet with much better battery life and the Vita browser is crap anyway. This is a totally redundant option that won't convince a single person to buy a Vita, yet will cost millions every year. Just do the math, $3 x 10 million Vitas = $30 million! And what for, if nobody cares about this and the Wi-Fi version sells much better anyway? The only point for Sony in having 3G Vita is to sell it as a premium version at a profit right from the start. But if one version has to be scrapped and the only one left is to be sold at a loss, the 3G is the one that should go. It's simple, don't waste money on something your customers don't care about anyway.

And Sony said that they won't be taking a loss when selling a Vita 3 years after launch. I kinda doubt they were predicting current situation and such an early pricecut when making this prediction, so there is no chance that they won't be taking a loss next year if they cut the price. Hence it's better to take a smaller loss than a bigger one.

Face it, keeping the 3G version instead of the Wi-Fi one is just stupid. Obviously Sony is known for making stupid moves, but I hope that the current financial situation will force them to think about what they are doing.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Around the Network

If PS4 releases then,
PS3 12GB - $199
PS3 500GB - $249
PSV w/memory card & PS+ - $199
PSP - $99

--
Xbox 360 4GB - $179
Xbox 360 250GB w/Kinect - $249

--
Wii Tiny - $99
(No more regular Wii)
WiiU - $299 (New Bundle)

3DS - $149

3DS XL - $179

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I agree, i just dont understand the reason to have 2 separate models with low storage

I actually think the $299 model now is the best value. You get to save $50 that you can use towards a 1-2TB external hard drive. 32GB on the Deluxe is still useless and NintendoLand is not a killer game worth buying for the bundle. I think they'll drop the price by $50 by the time PS4/Xbox 720 launch but I think it would still be better to keep the 8GB model and drop it to $249. Nintendo's main chance to compete in 2013 will require price cuts anyways. If they drop the console to $249, PS4/Xbox 720 won't touch that, allowing Nintendo to stay in the game for budget conscious consumers.

Nintendo should axe the basic wiiu and cut the deluxe to 299.

The idea of the basic wiiu bundle is to get under the psychological barrier of 300 dollars.

So u think Sony will discontinue the 250GB model? And what would the X360 4GB w/Kinect and 250GB standalone be?

I don't have another mobile device to browse the web. I did recently, an iPod touch 4 but I sold it because the Vita is better. The Vita browser is not crap, have you used it much? It recently had a major upgrade as well, sitting at 243. Not as good as some of the best mobile devices but much better than any console except the Wii U.

Why do you think the Vita would be selling at a loss after a price cut? That's a big assumption. They could just as easily have the price down far enough to offset the price cut. This is an unknown, but given Sony's situation and the way they already have priced the Vita there is a good chance they are holding off the price cut until manufacturing costs go down. Also I see you quote the false article talking about ita selling at a loss per hardware, when actually that article was quoting an interview saying the Vita will have a return on investment after 3 years. Know the difference.

As I've said 3G is a small manufacturing price known to be around $3. We don't know what Sony is getting for them and we don't know if some sort of deal exists between Sony and AT&T. Eliminating a feature is not a good idea. Sony should have just made one model to begin with, a 3G wifi Vita. They could have bolster support for 3G related gameplay features. By eliminating it they are canning the 3G aspects of games that are already made and are being made.

I like having a 3G Vita. I can use it as a GPS and have the option for internet when I go on vacation.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

PS3 12gb~ £140
PS3 500gb~ £180 (if it happens)

Xbox 360 4gb~ Maybe small price cut to £130
Xbox 360 250gb~ £180

Wii~ Maybe a pricecut to £99

3DS XL~ £150
Normal 3DS will be discontinued altogether

PS vita~ £150 (currently £180 to £200 for PS vita bundles), 3G vita will be discontinued

PSP and DS pricecuts to £79, if at all

Wii U, pricecut is unlikely this is very dependent on sales

Out of all them, only the vita is likely to get a price cut i think

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Man, buy a smartphone!

I have spent quite some time browsing the Internet on Vita and it's not as good as I hoped it would be. It doesn't support flash, I can't watch online streams, which is a huge minus for me. Additionally many times I had the issue that I couldn't scroll down the page. I would move it down a bit, but the moment I lifted my finger, it would go all the way up. I know this is fixable, but still made me go back to my smartphone (a Sony one, might I add), which does everything right and is much better at browsing Internet, even though it has a much smaller screen.

It's good that the plan for Vita was to have a return in 3 years, thought it was not to take a loss. Better for Sony.

If Sony made only a 3G one, it would be a different story. But obviously only if it supported online play. I would pay more to be able to play multiplayer games everywhere I go, no doubt about it. In fact when I've heard about the two versions I was 100% sure I'd get the 3G one. But it turned out that there simply is no point. There is no point for us to buy it, or for Sony to manufacture it.

@3DS. Long, long time ago in a different forum I predicted a 3DS redesign that would incorporate the second "analog" and additional buttons. I was basing it on a presumption that Vita would sell well and impose pressure on Nintendo, which would need to do that so that 3DS gets the ports of 3rd party games. Unfortunately Vita isn't doing as well as I predicted, so I'm not sure if Nintendo decides to make this move, but I'd love them to go for it! I can still wait for the next redesign. And this time I won't be getting a "DSi", I'll wait for the XL :) Would be cool if they did this redesing this year and released a Metroid Prime 3DS!

Because the 3DS Xl came out this year and is vastly better than the original 3DS
