Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Monolith Soft wants to be like Bethesda

Monolith Soft’s first Wii U project will be a challenging game that will bring people together, according to the developer, and consumers can expect it to be both very flashy and addicting.

The developer’s executive producer, Hirohide Sugira, says he and his team want to recuperate the Japanese gaming industry by showing what they can do with their first HD, Wii U game.

Michihiko Inaba of Monolith Soft says he wants the forthcoming game to show that Japan can keep up with developers in the U.S., in terms of technology. Inaba also says Monolith Soft’s goal is to become like Bethesda Softworks, the developer of the Fallout series.

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugiura: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.

Oh wow I own one of their titles. Though they shouldn't be confused with the other Monolith who also makes good games like for instance F.E.A.R. and Condemned.

Tease.

I for one don't want them to become 100% like Bathesda as that will introduce game breaking bugs.

The creative arm of Bathesda I agree that woudl be nice.

haha hopefully not, but i understand what he means, he wants people to get ''the feeling'' again, that FF6 feeling, that inner ''wow'' and i can't help but feel very happy for this.

they already had, Xenoblade Chronicles

If anybody can do anything for the japanese game industry, it is monolith. Xenoblade was freaking amazing and I would love to see what they have up their sleeves for their next game!

They just need to improve the graphics, what's now possible with the wii u, because they already make better games than bethesda, if the next game is better or at least same quality as xenoblade, I don't know if I will survive such awesomeness!

I'm afraid we won't :( but it will be worth it

Kudos to Sugira for wanting to learn from the success of one of best creative teams in the industry, and for wanting to make his company better.

However, I don't think all Japanese game creators have lost their way. Maybe this feeling on the part of Sugira has to do with negativity over the most recent releases from Square Enix and Capcom? But others -- like Nintendo EAD, Konami, Game Freak, and even Monolith Soft -- are still turning out great games.

But, again, if Monolith wants to borrow ideas from Bethesda, I say go ahead.
