I life in a country that is pretty much better in every way possible as the United States.

netherlands...lol.

people will die because that is all guns do: Kill people.

thats weird, because my Ak-47, Glock 19, SCAR-17s, Ruger 10-22 are all laying beside me rights now. and none of them are moving and trying to kill me or anybody else. in fact my guns have never even moved or fired with out somebody actually using them. maybe i should ask for a refund, my gins seem defective, they dont shoot and kill own their own. but i do use them frequently, have shot thousands of rounds them them, and shocking they havent killed a single person, let alone an animal. its crazy how is this possible. no one has been killed by them. they must be broken.

Thank God people are finally realizing that gun control means more crime, not the other way around. Do you really think tons of gun control would have stopped shootings such as Columbine, Virginia Tech, or the Colorado movie theatre? No! But if some of the people in these places had been carry/concealing maybe they could have stopped it sooner.

I'm gonna have to say this: If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

Illinois isn't realizing this though. They actually fought tooth and nail on this. On top of this other restrictions were deemed unconstitutional previously in Illinois. I don't remember the exact laws but they were ridiculous to the point that it was impossible to have a gun. It was something like you needed to bring your gun to chicago to register it but then there was another law banning guns in the city limits of chicago. Something utterly ridiculous like that.

Wow that's absolutely ridiculous...I can't believe how people continue to ignore the facts and blame crime on guns/lack of gun control. I'd have to look it up but I'm almost certain I've read that more crime is prevented by armed law abiding citizens than by police...and much of this is just flashing your gun, not even shooting it.

I'd believe it. In this thread I was quoting response times for high priority calls which were over ten minutes. Those include assaults and shootings in progress. I also quoted an episode of greg mathis (judge show based in chicago) where the plaintiff had to go to the police station to fill out an assualt police report because the police refused to respond basically.

Wow 10+ minute response times! That's insane. If an armed burglar breaks into your house you'll be lucky to survive 10 minutes waiting for the police. At least with a gun you have a chance. And that is terrible police wouldn't even respond, probably too busy out giving tickets to meet their quotas.

Let me explain something to you that you obviously don't get. If you wait until the criminal is pointing a gun at you, you're alread dead. Good luck with that.

Also, that's not an emotional argument, it's something that unfortunately happens in the real world, and it is  a legitimate concern if somebody has forced entry into your home while you're there. You have way too much faith in criminals to be decent, well meaning people who just need some new stuff. Not sure how you're coming to that conclusion, but it's simply naive.

Again, no. I expect them to be murdering psychopaths. It's just not OK to be one yourself.

And sure, rape happens, but why is the example you resort to, "but what if your wife was being raped?". There are other examples that are less "OH ITS MY WIFE YOU'RE RIGHT I'D SHOOT THE BASTARD".

Murder is different than home defense. If you break into my house, you're probably not leaving if you do ANYTHING to make me think you're a threat. That's not murder by any stretch. You forgo your rights when you break into my home, potenitally putting my family in grave danger. The fact that you just equated me defending my self and family to me bing a 'murderous psychopath' means you just lost all credibility.

Let me be clear, if you put your hands up or go into a non threatening pose (lying on the ground, run away, whatever), you can live to see another day. You make any move that looks like you might be going for a weapon or coming towards me, no way I'm taking a chance there.

But who says you need to be armed with a lethal weapon?

Disabling is sufficient.

you want to take a chance with a golf club or something. be my guest. but i dont know why the criminal is in my house, what type of weapon he may have, how capable he is, and what his intentions are. so im not taking any chances. im using my glock. guns are the great equalizer. the criminals come at me with a knife, i have a gun, he comes at me with a bat, i have a gun. he comes at me with a gun, i still have a gun.

take your chances, but dont force others to put themselve in greater danger.

Because you're being just as bad as they are. I even think this if it's self-defence, except that it would be sufficient grounds to drop charges.

That's 10 minutes after they are called too... not 10 minutes after they enter your house. Good luck trying to get to the phone to call the police. And no, Chicago police have a lot to deal with right now. Gang violence is crazy high right now. They are busy with that not giving tickets

The prior bill largely limited carrying weapons to when a person was in a car, walking into a house and out on a sidewalk, and it specifically disallowed guns to be carried in churches, schools, gymnasiums, sporting events, bars and businesses, Phelps said.

Someone asked about carrying weapons in buildings earlier. Not sure if it was this thread or the mall one. Will post this there too.

Also, LOL at this quote.

“If we need to change the law, let us at least craft a law that is very severely constrained and narrowly tailored so that we don’t invite guns out of control on each of our city’s streets,” Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”

She clearly has no clue what is going on in her state

Why was the right to carry a gun ever included in your constitution? i don't understand that

because we had just fought a war against oppresive tyrants, so they wanted us to be able to defend ourselves against oppressive tyrants

Fair enough about defending your country against the British, but the native tribes themselves were no enemy

Thank goodness I live in a country with a sensible gun culture and sensible gun control laws. We have very little gun crime (and rather few accidental gun deaths) because of it. I simply could not feel safe around people carrying deadly weapons.

Yeah, let me disable a 250 lbs 6'4" criminal... THATS A BRIGHT IDEA!

"Excuse me sir, I see you have a weapon. Why don't you put it down and let's settle this like gentlemen" LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!

OK. It's very sad, people die every day. Can't be helped. I also believe terrorist attacks should be allowed for the same reason. The prevention (gun proliferation) is worse than the alternative.

If someone entered a house with the intent of killing, assume the target is already dead.
