Good sales to start off and 2013 software is already looking pretty good. Japan is getting Dragon Quest X which will help them move some major units, not as much as a non MMO version would but still considerable. And the US has Rayman hitting, Pikmin 3 (prettiest console game I've ever seen) Aliens, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter. Wii U will be good on software till at least Spring, and no telling what games will be announced between now and then. People expecting, fearing, or hoping for a Vita or 3ds situation really shouldn't.
Games are fun.
Probably Wii U is sold out also in Japan... sp I don't expect the numbers be higher in 7 days

I have a great feeling that Nintendo is going to meet their 5 million mark and even topple Vita sales over this holiday period alone.
I think the Wii U is doing really well for where it is now :) I hope it keeps that way anyway. I'm not ready to adopt it yet, but will be in a few months. Right now too many other financial obligations and we just purchased a Galaxy Note 10.1($450)! If it'd not been for that, I'd probably asked for a Wii U for Xmas...:):):)
Normally I don't buy launch systems, but reading these forums makes me want to take the plunge :>

Pretty sure I remember the N64 opening huge (300,000+) in Japan and just fading rapidly after that.

Vita could still get reasonable numbers in Japan, but I agree with you 5+ million is pretty assured
