Dragon's Lair was great for it's time.

It invented the quick time event and still looks great.

I could go off about his choice of Wii Sports as well, but what's the point? Everyone knows that it's great at what it does, though some won't admit it.

Inventing the quick time event is hardly something you'd want to brag about.

It was a big deal at the time.  You had to move up, down, left, right, or press the sword button at the precise moment in order to get the I am continuing in the game animation.  If not, you would die a miserable death.  It didn't display the button that you have to press on the screen like the more modern games.

Have you ever played Dragon's Lair?  It was animated by Don Bluth, one of the top animators at the time.

I can't say that I have. I had to do a Google search to know what the game was... how can this be overrated? I'd say it's mostly unknown.

It was one of the most popular games in at the arcade when I was young.  Back in the Neanderthal Era...

I actually have it listed as one of my favorite games in my profile.  *clears throat*

I'm not one for quicktime event based games, but I still see Dragon's Lair as a keystone in videogames history due to the fact that it's one of the first that introduced the potential for other industries, such as animation, to heavily invest some effort into videogames.

The Halo paragraph made me lol

Sounds like a grumpy old man whos angry/cant understand why all the youngins are playing something he cant understand.

Note: Not a single Playstation IP listed. Cute.

cause they're not overrated.  They don't sell as well so they get frequently bashed as being bad because of that which I find hilarious because most of the bashers haven't played and only didn't try them because they weren't FPS games or a big brand name.  Also the marketing is normally non-existent or bad.

Id say Gran Turismo. It sells a ton and one could argue the quality dip this gen to the sales it gets warrants such a nomination.

nah. the only thing that changed this gen with GT is that everytime it's mentioned someone brings up forza like it's the second coming of racing.

and it's gotten old frankly

Hey, everyone likes the underdog, especially when they get better reviews.

But in all seriousness, the metas of GT5:P (80), GT5 (84) and GT PSP (74) especially all are disproportionate to the sales it gets now.

People were only pissed cause it took long to come out.  Honestly I feel like it lived up to the hype and will most likely sell 10 million so can't really be put as overrated.  Besides that's one entry in an indisputably stellar franchise

forza is a fine game but it does not have the burden of a 15 year old grand history

(and I think we should host an intervention about your obsession with meta scores)

There are justifiable reasons for why each of the 3 games suffered in their scores, lets not get into that. Waiving your hand dismissively at scores is a sore losers excuse, there are always reasons behind the scores. I accept it when my favourite games suffer in scores but I still enjoy them, but I digress.

The franchise has a quality and rich history, no denying that. But this gen, one could argue the games weren't up to the standards of its last gen counterparts, yet the support and admiration for the series remains largely unchanged. Hence I feel its overrated....this gen only.

Could the same thing not be said about Halo->2->3->Reach->4 decline? The sales stay steady or increase but the "quality dips"

True. An 87 is still better then a 84, but then youd tell me that is all 80-89 which I always go by. You got me. I make no excuses. I wish the GT people could own up but ok. Metas should have no impact on the enjoyment of the game (if its your favourite IP), whichever it is.

But then again, Halo has always been classified as "overrated", even when they were getting 90s. GT has never had negative criticism for its popularity, even with this generations offerings.

Probably Wii Sports. It's more a tech demo to me, a pretty good one at that. But when Nintendo-fans bring how much it "sold" even though it comes with the damn console, it bugs me a bit. Solid game nonetheless, but again more of a tech demo representing how the Wii's new, at the time, technology works.

And this guy really seems to hate Halo lol. Sure the graphics aren't the best, and it hasn't innovated with each new release, but no other FPS seems to get that "epic" feeling and vibe the same way that Halo does. I haven't played 4 yet, but Reach and 3 had that epic feeling. It's not just graphics, but presentation overall. The scores for 3 and Reach are phenomenal.
