I think is simple, most people at launch only have the money to spent in 2 (max 3) games. Without including the Nintendo Land bundle people will go with these choices: SMBU, ZombiU and one other third game. It doesn't help that most launch games are ports but I think there are to many tittles for launch (second in history I believe), regardless of the ports.

I'm taking a wild guess here, but maybe there's a little saturation in the quantity of launch games, thus the reason why the games have sold so little. I could be dead wrong in this though, it just a guess.

This is important. Short-run, people don't have money for more than a few games at launch. Long-run, launch games maybe tend to do better than others (see: Red Steel vs Red Steel 2), due to the fact that the console exists but few enough games to fill it out are there.

Edit: also true because i have NSMBU, Nintendoland, and Ninja Gaiden already, and will be getting Batman for christmas. For a guy who usually only gets one game a month (and has Link to the Past and KOTOR II backed up) that's a lot.

You're both absolutely correct. This isn't difficult to see. I had the money to get the Deluxe system and two games on launch day. It's a Nintendo console, so I HAD to get NSMBU, then had the choice of which 3rd party game to get. I was choosing between ZombiU, Mass Effect 3, AC3 and BLOPS2, happened to choose BLOPS2. People need to understand that the 3rd party attach rate takes a back seat to NSMBU and is further divided among several good games, so that will bring down the attach rate numbers for the individual games. Since there's literally no userbase at launch (duh), you're not going to see huge sales like on other consoles. ZombiU obviously took the cake among 3rd parties because it's not a port, and I hear it's very good. I have no doubt that without ZombiU, BLOPS2 would have had a SIGNIFICANTLY higher attach rate. On top of all that, a lot of buyers probably only have the cash for one game at launch! BLOPS2 will have good legs, no doubt about it.

I'm amazed how quickly people make judgements around here, yeesh!

Even if BLOPS II sold that low on WiiU, it would still need at least a couple of months to show its legs before declaring it a failure in any way.  Ditto with AC3; just because the sales don't look hot right now doesn't mean that they'll stay that way.  I'd give the benefit of the doubt.

yeah pretty sad, i believe nintendo didn't put any aaa games out to give 3rd parties a chance. batman which is one of the best games ever is barely at 50k and ninja gaiden 3 didnt even rank. very sad, gamers complain as to y there is no 3rd party support. the more things change the more they stay the same

SUPPORT UR 3RD PARTIES ON WIIU GAMERS!!!!! I WANT METAL GEAR TO CUM BACK HOME!!!

COD3 on Wii sold 250k around launch time (Nov. 19th - Jan 1st). It went on to sell 2 million.

Keep your finger on the trigger, but don't pull yet......

Wii was an extremely "hot" item back then. So that explains why that game sold so well.

A better indication of how Black Ops 2 will sell is to look at sales of Modern Warfare 3 for Wii. Vgchartz puts it at about 550k with an install base of ~98million Wiis. This is life to date, not launch.....

But how long unitl they slash the price for those games because no one is buying them ? They'd need to sell even more to break even then.
Either way the software sales of these titles: Darksiders 2, Blops2 (to a lesser extent), AC3, Batman AC etc. are just horrible. Even if they don't decline after several months (which they will) they won't even come close to recoup their porting costs in that time.

Batman is actually probably quite a bit lower than even that.  It is 4 spots below Black Ops 2 which sold 21k, and only 2 spots above Skylanders which was under 10k.  VGC probably has it overtracked by around 15k for its first week in the USA.

We need to talk about it.

Why don't we just wait and see before making any judgments.  I prefer to wait and see; I'm hoping the sales will leg out.

These numbers are all similar to the 3DS launch, if I remember correctly.

I LOVE ICELAND!

It's simple.

1. Person is buying a new console. Thus they are spending $300+ on that. They don't have the money to buy multiple games. So they get 1 or 2. Thus why launch games can be a hit or miss. All it takes is one steller launch title to steal every other games sales.

2. 360 and PS3 versions already been out. Most people who play these games would have bought it already for one of those systems. Thus not going to buy the same game in a matter of such a short time twice, and back to point one. Again about money. They probably already have the game, so why waste money on it again when spending so much on just the system alone.

3. LAUNCH fricken system compared to install base of 360/PS3. Anyone who says COD is not a multiplayer only game is kidding themselves. Now barely anyone has a Wii U, so if you want to play COD with your friends, where will you find them? On one of the other systems.

These pathetic sales numbers would be the exact same if the new system was a PS4 or 720.

Sadly developers seem to be fanboys of anyone but Nintendo, so this is worrying.

4. Wii U spanking new console, CoD same ol', same ol', why buying spanking new console to play same ol', same ol'? Wii U gamers are obviously smarter than what Bobby Skrotick would like them to be.
