Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Current vs Last, a Console Sales Story (COMPLETE!)

Final Smash: Should somone one do this at the start of every gen?

yes 65 75.58%

no 3 3.49%

show me the money! 7 8.14%

Total:75

Even if it sells 50k per week for the next 11 weeks (till the end of March) it will only sell an additional 550,000 bringing its Total to just under 3m.

We don't even know if its stabilised at 50k yet, it could drop further.

Whats coming out between now and the end of March that could even boost sales?

That chart is going to get sweeter and sweeter every week. You should not have removed the poll, it was always amusing to see.

I put its data in the bottom of the OP for reflection. Now there is a new poll to see where people stand as we pass the halfway point and the end of holiday sales.

3m SOLD... there is still likely another million on shelves and that SHIPPED figure is what Nintendo is looking at. Which is why I am thinking at best Nintendo may lower their estimates to 4m.

There are games coming out, but not sure if I'd call them system sellers.

Rayman is the bigger exclusive that is also new.
Few other multiplats.. nothing major.
MH3U is an enhanced port of a last gen game, so yeah good, but really only for Japan and its already out there.

Basically, it should simply hold steady, hopefully.

Wow in week 8 WiiU is well below even PS3's poor sales and a joke compared to Wii's week 8. I expected a better hold than that this early on. Will be interesting to see if next week it bounces back or drops lower.

I'm aware that Nintendo's target was a shipped figure, and your right that 3m sold could equal as high as 4m shipped but I still think this is almost a best case scenario now.

4m shipped is still 28% lower than the 5.5m they forcasted.

The question now is simply can the WiiU bounce back like the 3DS or will it continue to struggle like the Vita?

It doesn't look very promising at this point at the current price point. I just don't see the demand by people for a device which is the same as the current generation consoles and the controller having not justified itself yet. The console lacks a lot of titles which the other consoles have so from one perspective I guess it is a good sign it is selling as much as it is given the stiff competition.

Tease.

This weeks update to my cumulative Media Create chart...

VGChartz

Can't wait for this to be updated.

I've played through just about every major Nintendo game for console since the 80s (I own a wiiu) and I think I'll never understand their business tactics. They're forecasting 5.5 million sales by end of march but they don't understand that several million are holding out for 3d mario/Zelda plus consumers are given more incentive to wait because they know by the time the game does release the wiiu will be $50-$100 cheaper because of what happened to the 3ds in 2011. I know Nintendo has an overkill quality assurance program (most of the time) and the games simply aren't ready yet but at least offer a bundle option with NSMBU. I understand they're pushing Nintendo land but I think an optional bundle could be more attractive for the hold-outs especially since 5.5 million is pretty ambitious

Your graph on the front page may be inaccurate. This page says Wii U sales (without this week I think) are at 2.55mil. Your graph seems to be just a little below that. Were there adjustments in previous weeks? It's probably not worth changing it until Nintendo releases their figures though.

Regardless, Wii U is certainly slowing down and they will not hit their projections. Interestingly, however, Wii U (even with these numbers which are perhaps too low) has already outsold the 360 through to March. Goes to show that launching first doesn't pay dividends, and indeed that first console out often struggles at launch.

Come the end of March I see Wii U at 3-3.5mil

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
