Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii-U Network Extremely Slow

I'm updating my Wii-U now, and even though I have extremely fast internet speed and connected my Wii-U via ethernet cable, the update is stuck for over an hour on the very beginning of the progress bar. What should I do, turn it off and try again? Did any of you have this problem? Frankly it seriously sucks and this whole updating ordeal is being handled very amateurishly by Nintendo...

Don't turn it off! I think mine did something like that. I just touched the pad i think at it said that the download had failed. It didn't though. When I went back to do it again it was at 80%. Then it finished and was done.

Turning it off could kill your system. I wouldn't do that without calling Nintendo tech support.

You shouldn't pull the power plug, but you're allowed to turn the console off as far as I payed attention.

Hey! Totally off-topic, but hello. Haven't seen you about much... maybe I haven't posted enough myself.

Mine is downloading so I hope I don't have any issues. What's your id? Have you added it to the Wii U friend thread?

Yes.

This sounds like the first update. What ever you do do not turn off the system. It is slow but it is updating. Future updates will just download in the background.

can't you just download it in the background with spotpass?

The fact that download speeds are still excruciatingly slow tells me that it's not about traffic, Nintendo either has a shit network set up or there is something about this first update that isn't standard.

Seems like a lot of people are having issues with the updates. I think I'll wait until next spring when the updates come right out of the box.

Nintendo and PC gamer

It worked fine for me on two separate Us, it just took a while.

(And yes, it appeared to stall several times--on both--and the last chunk just snapped into place very quickly.)
