Forums - Gaming Discussion - Fanboys, I just don't get it

Interesting topic, and I have actually been thinking a lot about this subject lately. The origin of the phenomenon known as fanboyism lies in a person's sense of identity and wanting to be part of something like the video states.Part that of sense of belonging is personal investment into an object that the community centers around, in this case a game console. So all the different fanboys in the video game community really need to look in the mirror and re-evaluate exactly what they are investing so much of their self-worth into. There are many other things in life that are more important than defending a video game console or a cheering for a game company when it hits a certain milestone in sales.

As funny as that is, it isn't true.

It is possible to run ads on a website and still have legit reviews.

Mountain Dew and Doritos are delicious and Halo 4 is freaking awsome. These opinions are not mutualy exclusive. Just becuase both are in a room together doesn't make Halo 4 less great.

I love fanboys because everything seems more interesting...

Imagine how this place would be boring without pezus, seece, kowen, selnor, leo, aldro, d-joe, nsanity, etc... they are all so funny.

Fanboys are idiots!!!!! I own all current systems and will do so as long as I'm alive.

I'm a fan of the 360, but sometimes I really wish I also owned the PS3.

The worst fan boys are those that actually defend Microsoft charging $60 for Xbox Live!!!

What if you'd rather not pay for Xbox Live, but don't really care because you know you spend more than that a year on gum?

i don't love them as they are keeping people from this forum - i wouldn't describe some posts as a nice welcome to a forum when reading from several fanboys. also arguing with them, especially about technical things, is absolutely useless as they argue with opinion and not with facts.

I don't chew gum. And, defending Xbox Live is silly cause playstation owners can play online for free.

Thanks for this thread, timmah.

I'm ambivalent about fanboys. One one hand, they make this forum an interesting place. Crazy theories and irrational hatred serve as a necessary foil to all the well-balanced, thoughtful commentary. On the other hand, they sometimes make the forum a very toxic, inhospitable place.
