Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ruffian's canned Streets of Rage remake outed by gameplay video

OXM

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian was once down to develop a Streets of Rage remake, employing a 3D perspective and some brutal new moves. A video of the same - confirmed to be legit by former Ruffian employee Sean Noonan - has leaked on Vimeo. Have a watch, and see if it gets your retro glands tingling.

"So it seems like one of my previous projects has leaked, as pretty as I remember," Noonan wrote on Twitter, via Spong. Thoughts, everybody? Ruffian is also rumoured to be crafting a multiplayer mode for Crytek's little-seen Kinect brawler Ryse.

I am shell shocked! I'm happy SEGA is really investing into a revival of this series, but this is garbage. Again the west takes a Japanese IP and just sucks the life right out of it. This is the 4th time this gen SEGA has had SOR in development and canned it and I thank god they did. We are saved from another Golden Ax.

Why not have the Yakuza studio or AM2 do it!? or SEGA WOW..even Wayforward!!!!???

Graphics and Design looks good but the gameplay looked a bit clunky....regardless wouldnt mind playing it even if its gameplay might of not been as good as the original games.

What!? the tech while good doesnt  matter at all. The Art direction is horrid. Axel stone and the gang had a simple but Ionic designs the main character in this game would be a NPC in every other game.  They choose the generic dark/gritty realistic look than the style of the originals. The fighting look incredibly clunky,,slow and boring.

Outside of WayForward/Retro, why cant the west ever respect the source material of japanese games? The track record for western developed Japanese games is horrible minus the above developers.

@BasilZero

Graphics and Design looks gooHere are some scenes from a playable prototype. It was something we built very rapidly and represents pre-pre-pre-pre (lots of pres) pre-Alpha quality. Even so it has a certain charm :)

What's the story behind it all? Like a lot of developers we work on a lot of different prototypes, they're just not usually shown in public. In this case an older version of the same video was leaked last week which came as a bit of a surprise if I'm honest. As it had no sound I thought there wouldn't be any harm sharing a version with audio.

Beyond that there's not a lot more I can say unfortunately :)

Enjoy

If this trailer had been released on to the internet,took out the cutscene part and started where the main character walks out the door. I would not know what this game is. The only hint would be phone booth. I didnt even recognize "that" jack at the end till I watched the 3rd time

I think people are being too critical of a game that; 1-is in very early stages; 2- most likely a xbla/psn games. I thought it looked pretty good for the most part.

I don't see nothing wrong with the game. Maybe I have low standards. Wouldn't mind paying $10 for it on XBLA.

This is critically acclaimed series without any blemishes. This isnt a C or B class series. This was a Pillar series for SEGA back in the day. Why would people not be critical of it?
