Forums - Sony Discussion - I think Sony is onto something with PSN Plus and I'll explain why.

The masses dont care which is why ps+ subscriptions are up 300%

Yeah im pretty sure that has something to do with the holidays and the 3 month PS+ free trials.  Not that hard to figure out why  holidays and a new product would spike something like this.

Quote me next time or reply to me.

Xbox gamers lose half their full retail priced game's content when they stop renting online that they already pay for.

PSN+ does not interest me in the slightest. I'd much rather just get random sales than pay for a subscription to "free" games that I'll lose if I end my subscription.

To me games are not a service. They are products for me to purchase and I don't want o purchase anything temporary. It's more like an extremely limited rental service.

The "free" games on PSN+ are more like rentals. But you don't get to pick them out. Sony picks some games and allows you to download and play them. Who say's I wanted those games? Maybe I want different games. Subscribers are paying for access to these "free" games regardless of if they get any games that interest them.

If PSN+ was more like Netflix, meaning that you pay a monthly fee to access 1 or 2 games a month but have access to the entire catalog of games, I could at least see the value. But as the service is right now, I just don't want to spend money on access to games Sony picks for me and sales on stuff I may not want.

But, PS+ is so much more than that.

-Automatic game updates (set the time that you will not be using the system, and the next time you turn it on all of you games are ready to play, no more waiting for patches to d/l and install)

-System updates auto d/l

-Cloud saves (access data for PS1/PS Vita cross play games at any time, back up all saves during auto d/l)

-Trophy sync (another auto d/l feature)

-Participate in every Beta

-Day One digital games for $53 (Many new games are day one digital, games on the HDD load faster, have less pop in, and can not be lost)

-20 - 50% discounts on most new DLC and PSN games

-Early access to some games

Plus, new stuff is always being added. I feel dirty getting it all for $49 a year. This time my sony rewards payed for it, and that is just off games/electronics perchases, pay it off every month. At this rate Sony will be buying me a PS4 and PS+ for life.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

What I dont understand is the "rental service" excuse, especially when t is said by people who pay for LIVE. Aren't you essentially "renting" Online play and if you stop paying you lose half your game in a sense?

Not saying people should or shouldn't pay for it, nor is this meant as a dig against LIVE. I just don't understand that stance. A user above said its not for him because he doesn't want to be tied down to subs in order to use his games. Isn't that exactly what LIVE does?

By the way, for all I know he doesn't pay for LIVE either.

PSN+ is great value. Unfortunately it doesn't fit for me. I like to own my games and I don't like to get tied down with subscription fees annually to use the games.

I like buying my own games as well. PSN + got me interested in games I overlooked like Resident Evil, Little Big Planet, Bioshock 2, even small downloadables like outland and more. I tend to focus on the huge blockbuster titles because now that I am in college theres only so much time that I have free. Think of it as a rental thats way cheaper per year but it also helps you get into a franchise with games you might not have played for the next game in a franchise that is coming out. If focused correctly next gen this could be awesome.

Absolutely.  I'm glad someone saved me the trouble of listing all the things PS+ brings to the table.  Calling it a "limited rental service" just isn't accurate, as that is only one aspect.

Honestly, I can understand how it has less value for a person who buys a lot of games, especially if they can buy them at full price.  However, for those of us who often wait on games that we're unsure of, PS+ is fantastic.  I don't buy a lot of games in a year, it's just not in my budget.  Only a few "must haves" are bought at full price, then I pick up more on holiday sales.  PS+ gives me a steady supply of gaming without having to wait until the end of the year.

Regarding the OP, I've said it before, but this is pretty awesome for publishers.  They can get copy of a title into the hands of gamers right before a sequel hits.  It's just good marketing.

There are also timed demos of full game releases for a lot of titles.  These aren't just limited demos, they're the whole game which you get to play for an hour, then you can buy it if you like.

They gave away inFamous 1 for free (when they got hacked) right before inFamous 2 was realeased.

No...they gave a handful of games for free and gave you the choice of two of them. Mostly games they've published to appologize for the incident.

I honestly don't care about most of the free games, but reading that list has made me tempted to get PS Plus again.

People on this site is trying to hype up this service so much but it still stands that the mass does not care about this service. Until they tie in online with PS+ people will not care about it. You were using you as an example of your reasons which is one person. But if that is the case then me and my friend both played the beta of sony all stars and we decided not to buy it because of that beta was not fun....

Question, how many PSN Plus commercials have you seen on TV?
