Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 is #1 for Netflix Streaming in the Living Room

@selnor you have proof that Live has more active members than PSN as a whole?? Cause if you dont you are just making stuff up. WHich im sure you are in this regard anyway.
ANd your comparisons still make no sense because that only applies to ONE region. And last i checked PS was more popular in the European areas anyway. Im not saying those arent a factor, but to say that HALF the 360 user base not having access to Netflix(or any other service for that matter) doesnt play the biggest role in Netflix having higher usage on PS3 is just lying to yourself

Actually its not 1 region. Its Europe as a whole. Sony treat EU terrible for services etc.

I think you dont understand. I have not said half the userbase has access to Netflix.

I said the following.

10 people have PS3, 10 people have 360.

The PS3 people have the option of Netflix. Thats it. They will choose ummmmm Netflix.

Whereas the 360 people have the choice of Netflix or BlinkBox or Now TV or Sky or Lovefilm or Hulu Plus or Crackle.

So whereas 100% use Netflix on PS3 due to the only option. maybe only 20% will use it on 360 due to other options.

This isnt difficult to understand people.

In EU Sony offers absolute crap in comparison to 360 in terms of multimedia services via the digital space.

As for the userbase info you already know we cant officially look at those numbers side by side thanks to Sony hiding the figures we need.

Every year Microsoft release the number of Active users on Live in the last 12 months. Any accounts not logged on in the last 12 months are not included and nor are Silver members.

Sony however release All time accounts every year. Hell they include my account. And its been around for 4 years, but dormant for 3 of those years. Until Sony man up and actually show us active users we will never know for sure.

The best we can do is take the top 10 games on PSN played and top 10 on Live played each month and look at ow active the players are. How many Digital Downloads each month are made on each respective format.

Looking at these show Xbox Live has never been beaten by PSN in either field and Live is along way in front with these numbers.

I believe looking at the numbers ourselves and the fact Sony refuses to give us official numbers for over 4 years since Microsoft called them out on their numbers at E3 show Sony doesnt have a strong active userbase.

Go do some research yourself. Bare in mind it takes alot of work. We used to do it here, but stuff doing it again. Sony just release the damn numbers everyone wants.

Its sad how some people are grasping at straws

Netflix is only available in the Americas and Europe.

Here's a quick look at console break down per region in millions (base on VGC data)

XBOX360 PS3
NA 40.6 25
Europe 22.4 27.3
Japan 1.5 8.7
Others 7.2 8.7
Total 71.7 69.7

From here,

With Netflix Access
XBOX360 63
PS3 52.5

Soooo... the Xbox360 install base has about 10.5million more consoles located in regions where Netflix is available.

Lets also not forget the fact that not all of Europe has access to Netflix which makes the Xbox360 install base with Netflix access even larger.

It should also be noted that the Xbox360 and PS3 are not the only devices that support Netflix.

For the PS3 to be the No. 1 Netflix streaming device is quite an achievement considering there are less PS3s in regions where Netflix is available as compared to the X360.

People can bring up stuff like "but the X360 has more apps and shit". but it doesn't change the fact that the ps3 IS THE streaming device of choice for Netflix even surppasing the X360 which has MORE Consoles in the wild.

Keep trying to grasp at straws if you wish, you're just looking foolish and desperate.

Well said ils411. you can't argue with that.

took the words right out of my mouth, and selnor keeps ignoring that only half the 360 users half access to Netflix in the first place. Thats irrelevant to how many active users the PSN has.

I thought that this was always the case?

Isn't it also "grasping for straws" ( as you put it) te same thing when PS users get excited that more people use netflix on that decice than 360?

How is something that is true, at least when that report/survey came out, is "grasping at straws"? PS fans/users are happy that the PS3 is used to stream netflix more than any other device, how is being happy for that "grasping at straws"?

Trying to make excuses and trying to down play this info to try and make their "prefered" platform look better is grasping at straws.

Much like how, you're trying to make it look like "ps fans being happy for the PS3 being the no.1 netflix streaming device" seem like something negative when clearly it isnt.

Pretty lame of you to make such an argument as it makes completely no sense.

I dont have netflix on my ps3 for some reason its called quickflix?

My point is why should PS fans be happy about something so small?
