Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Vita price must be slashed in order to have a chance of succeeding, claims analyst

Wait, cutting prices on items increases sales? Oh my god... mind blown.

Pidgeon also believes the quality and breadth of downloadable titles must also be increased.
"Also the proprietary memory cards for PS Vita are prohibitively expensive. There should be more downloadable software, including inexpensive or free games, and these must be higher quality than popular iOS and Android games," he added. "It would in fact be helpful if the best and most popular smartphone and tablet games were also available for download to PS Vita."

Has he not heard of PSM? It sure is small but it grows rapidly. Just the other day I downloaded two free games from it.

yea he's a real genius, but it still won't sell like 3ds. at a $199 price point i could see a significant sales increase. maybe 30-90% of wht 3ds sells.

sony already know when they're going to cut the price. they want the vita to be around for a while so they got to space out the price cuts.

Astounding insight, only an analyst could have provided such a deep and profound revelation to the ignorant masses.

No shit.

I have been saying it since before it launched.

But I think he may be wrong because I was told I was wrong repeatedly here. Nothing to do with price, its all about the games.

Isn't that the credo of the Nintendo fans in here? Up until the Wii's price was cut, that is.

Obviously, they have to cut the price at this rate. Problem is, Sony is too stuck up to admit no wrong.

more like sony is too financialy unstable to sell vita at a loss.  low sales are better than bleeding cash.

Well, that too. I don't know what they should do anymore.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Funny thing is if they do slash prices, itll offset whatever profit PS3 is making now. Double edge sword thingy.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I wish I got paid to make 'analyst' statements like this. Doubt there would be much work if this was all I had to come up with, though.

Im guessing this guy read Sony's official PR for black friday and put 1 and 1 together...

Vita problem has always been its price, If they get rid of the 3G model and price the wifi at 179, incorporate some form of cloud storage/game storage they could charge in lieu of those expensive memory cards, their sales would be comparable to the 3DS on any given week (ratio of 65/35 to 60/40 on most given weeks) instead of the 90/10 85/15 we have today.

I agree except for the bolded. The 3G model is the one that should stay, it is required for the pinpoint geolocationing. The Wifi only version should be annexed, yet the price should still drop to the same. 3G isn't really costing them that much, its like another 10$ at best. Supposedly the Vita is making an avg $60-90 per console sold. I think at 199 standard(only 20 dollars more than 3DS) Vita will do just fine. The also should have NEVER made that exclusive deal with AT&T, the 3G plan is complete rip off at what it is priced at now. I paid the 30dollar fee and ran out within 3 days.
