Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My impressions on Wii U...

I don't always do threads, but when I do, it's because it's worth it.

I had finally the chance to try it this weekend. I must say I'm pretty surprised.

First of all, the console itself is SO SMALL :O It's not even 2x times the size of the Wii. It's disturbing and it's fine at the same time.

Miiverse is a pretty good idea of social community, though I don't really get totally how it works. All I can say is that it plays a big part within the software of the console.

Nintendo Land is actually a very good game with clever ideas. I think I had one of the best social experience tonight. It was really that great, playing with friends. Big ups for Mario Chase and Luigi's Ghost Mansion. The assymetric gameplay is really special in itself - even if the concept is simple, it amazes you everytime you hold the Gamepad in your hands. Beware for fingerprints though... it's getting dirty fast.

Monita is fucking annoying though - it's like Fay and Navi had a baby together! But you can shut her cyborg mouth easily, at least! The game itself is worth much more praise than what critics give to, trust me.

New Super Mario Bros. U really benefits from the HD. I would say that the levels are fewer and shorter, but the level design is better than ever. Even if you saw before a lot of the same mechanics, the way they are presented in the new Mario game makes them feel fresh.

The menus are sleek, and the loading times are not that much of an issue. It takes about 15 secondes for a game to load when you launch it, but you got a picture and some music to entertain you. Very small concern about that.

Even though I know it's not a very big graphical powerhouse, my overall experience with Wii U was great, and I hope more and more people get to understand that its ultimate power resides in community and sharing brand new experiences with friends and family.

P.S. After the first use, the Gamepad's gonna be your best friend for life. It is by far the most clever idea of a remote. One click, I could turn down the volume on my TV or switch to any channel. With the Gamepad, Nintendo controls your SONY BRAVIA!

I thought the load times were long(er than 3DS) when switching among the "apps".

I had my doubt about Nintendo Land but it is really fun!

besides some loading times between apps (which will be improved upon) I love the WiiU as a console

Mario U is really fun and I'm glad it is harder than NSMBWii!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I'm actually becoming a really big fan of Nintendo Land. This is the game that will inspire thousands of inferior versions of it made by third parties.

i love the U, it has many winners (web browser, tv remote, gamepad itself...)
And i must say ZombiU is a fantastic game, a friend of mine and i had a blast last night trying to survive, its damn difficult
if only was a little more powerful...but sacrifices had to be made, and i understand Nintendo, power is the least important thing,
games and features is what make a console good

Miiverse is like Twitter - except you can friend people like Facebook as well as follow people, you can post drawings that you did usin the Gamepad, and you can post screenshots of what is appearing in the game at the time of posting.

At various points in certain games, like Mario, the game will ask what you want to say on Miiverse. If you say something, it will post a tag that get assigned to post, and that post will appear in a speech bubble with your Mii in other peoples games at the appropriate time and location.

I wonder how long it will be before we get SonyLand for the PS3?

I am Happy this is getting so much praise. I wish there was more stock though. I am nervous it will not make the 5.5 million mark Nintendo made for it.

Nintendo tends to screw up the launches every time by making the price point too high (3DS) or by not making enough stock available for retailers (Wii, WiiU). I personally think it's going to be hard for Nintendo to reach their financial objectives, but if you overlook the commercial side, Wii U is absolutely the most complete console they've made. It is fantastic and unique in its way - something I thought was nearly impossible after the introduction of motion controls.

It makes the Mii characters more interesting and more... alive, if you know what I mean. I was never a fan during Wii era, but this time around they're pretty great.

Well answer me this. The wii u pad is much more accurate than the wii mote isn't it?

Responds perfectly. Camera system in Nintendo Land using Gamepad is really 1:1. It is indeed (for my recent experience) much more accurate than the WiiMote. Touch panel works really fine with fingers too.
