Square Enix spent six months planning, six months creating four-minute "Agni's Philosophy" demo running on new Luminous Engine.

This summer, Square Enix showed off a next-generation Final Fantasy tech demo called "Agni's Philosophy," created using the company's proprietary Luminous Studio Engine. Now, it has been revealed that Square Enix spent an entire year creating the four-minute spot.

 

Kotaku translated a Game Watch report that states Square Enix spent six months planning the "Agni's Philosophy" demo before spending another six months actually developing it.

The Luminous Studio engine is currently in development at Square Enix and is planned to support game consoles, PCs, smartphones, and Web applications.

According to Square Enix, "Agni's Philosophy" is representative of the level of visual quality Square Enix is hoping to achieve with next-generation games. The demo is focused on a magic-wielding heroine name Agni and is set in a near-future world where ancient sorcery and advanced science coexist.

What a joke. Could be a while for a next gen game then.



When asked about the lack of games in a post-event interview with GameTrailer TV’s Geoff Keighley, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick said: “And we’re going to show such amazing content at E3. Be planned to be blown away.”

Hmm...if a 4 minute demo took a year to make, how long would would a game that has, say, 60 hours of content take to make?

4 mins x 15 = 60 minutes. So 15 years for one hour. 15 years x 60 hours = 900 years?

So we're looking at the year 2912 for their first game. This game will be legendary. Hopefully I'm alive by then.

Ya, with all the projects they have in the works, and are WAY WAY off schedule, their time would have been better spent working on the games themselves. Not spending a teams year on a tech demo. Guess Square is really on their way out, and they're doing all they can to milk shit for all it's worth off their brand name before going completely under.

Then they wonder why it takes them ages to make Versus.


Seeing how they work, it's actually believable when they said it would take them 10+ years to recreate FFVII in HD visuals.
