Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Insomniac: "people will still want new Xbox 360 games after Xbox 720 launches"

Speaking to OXM at a preview event, Allgeier insisted that launching a new game universe at the end of a hardware cycle is a sound move, despite plateauing software sales, as it allows you to stand apart in a sequel-heavy market.

"I think this industry thrives on new IPs and I think it's what keeps things going and renews it," he said. "This was a great opportunity for us to come out with a game when a lot of other people are coming out with sequels.

Allgeier doesn't think current gen sales will dry up once Xbox 720 appears (the new console is widely rumoured to debut at E3 2013). "I don't think people are just going to throw their Xbox's and PS3's out the window once the new consoles come. I think people are still going to be playing them, and they'll want to play new games."

"The market is always evolving, and it's really difficult to predict what's going to happen," Price chipped in later. "Especially today because it's not just about consoles anymore - people are playing games on whatever.

"We've heard over the years at Insomniac that people don't just want sequels. They want more than just sequels. They want new IP and they want new IP all the time. This was a great opportunity for us to stand out against the rest of the games and do something for players."

Multiplats and XBLA will keep it going. Also late adopters....its not like everybody is gonna upgrade right away. I myself waited until 2007 to buy my 360.

Older and wiser. Still bias and proud though ;)

I somehow doubt people will want to play this game in particular though...

lol, so true.

OT - if the next xbox has backwards compatability in particular i don't see any reason why some late 360 games couldn't have great success. launch windows tend to suck afterall.  now if only i had any confidence in ps4 to ps3 backwards compatability..

if a new xbox or ps4 launch i will never play my ps3 and 360 again lol

I'm a late adopter as well. I bought a PS2 in 2003 when it came out in 2000? PS3 in 2011 when it came out in 2007 (I think it was 2007 or was 2006?).

I'm gonna probably end up getting the Orbis in 2016 at the earliest or 2017 and Wii-U in 2015.

I'm gonna dish out on PC and PS3 games in the mean time and hopefully a Vita and a 3DS on the side.

Insomniac should realize if the Platform or Publisher doesn't market their game... it wont matter how good their game is or how unique or whether it is part of series or a new IP. Microsoft will completely drop marketing support for their old product as soon as they want to shift consumer focus on their new offering. This is their historical pattern.

How will Sony continue to promote game from Insomniac? That will be interesting to see...

What about EA? I think EA marketing will be in force leading up to release and sort of goes for the first week of sales and then starts focusing on something else.

Yeah, this can be true for some games. God of War 2 released AFTER the PS3 had launched, and it sold well.

However I'm not so sure of the selling power of Fuse. It looks like a re-imagined Resistance. While Resistance was never bad, it just never had that little extra "oomph" that made it a must have.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Insomniac? No thanks. Pretty crappy recently.

I'm not really here!

I don't know about the rest of the gaming population, but I don't want new IPs. I want new and unique gameplay experiences. I want new and evolving genres.

I don't just want a new face slapped onto an overcrowded genre with minor tweaks to the gameplay.
