Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Report: GameStop Cancelling Wii U Waiting List

I thought I read somewhere that the wiiU opening week wasn't that great :/ can't be bothered looking for the article though.

I don't understand.. you guys are so excited that the Wii U is so hard to find.. when you can buy it on gamestop.. the 8GB version at least.. not only that.. but the vita was completely out of stock for a couple of days after launch..

ps3 was out of stock for a couple of weeks.. and the 360 for a couple of months..

400K was it's launch numbers in the U.S, lower than the Wii's launch.. and at the time you couldn't even pick a WII as an option online since it was extreemely back ordered.....

Finally, again, the economy is quite different today than it was six years ago.  While people are still willing to spend money for the holidays, you're not going to see the WiiU - or a newly released PS4/NeXtBox - hitting remotely close to $9000...

This is so true. When I visited America during the holidays in 2006, everyone was crazy spending (even the people I was staying with).

When I visited them again in 2008 (this was before the crash), all they could talk about is how they don't know if they will have a job, how fuel is expensive, how this is expensive. I perosnally found it amusing as petrol comapred to Australia was DAMN cheap still. They were so worried about their financial situation that they would not even spend $5 on a pack of 24 coke cans t walmart. To me that was like a no brainer don't think twice as 24 pack of coke in Australia was about $30 at the time.

I guess the point I am making, if there were signs back in 2008 of people starting to worry, I can only imagine what 2012 is like in the USA.

Well that's actually part of the economy going down. People don't buy anything until Black Friday because it's extremely cheap. Before people would buy electronics anytime of year but now most people prefer to wait for Black Friday.

Exactly.  People as a whole spent a lot of money this year, but as individuals they were flocking to great deals, not jacked-up thousand dollar consoles.

The Xbox 360 launch first week sold 350,000 k and the PS3 sold 140,000 k according to VGChartz.... So I don't know what's your point here. They are good numbers

So I don't understand YOUR analogy. The Vita is sold out according to whom?

You are saying it is available when it is not, even when GameStop showed it as available adding it to the cart caused an error, but you only say these things as you have said for years because you favor Sony, it is the same arguments and statements, its just 2012 instead.

So, I go into two walmarts today and they both had 2 basic Wii Us. A toys r us had 6 basic models. Then I go into a sams club and they had 5 deluxe models and what did I do? I got one. Well my mom decided to buy it for me for christmas, so I have to wait a month to play it. But I can't wait.

 I agree.

I will finally buy a PS3 for 250€ with tho games offered ( uncharted 2 and gran turismo ), so yes 32Go is a fucking joke for 330€, but its like apple, people will always buy, no matter what is in, because it said "nintendo"

You're absolutely correct! Because when people see the name Nintendo, they know what they are getting.

Yep, but its fanatic, just like apple, people who can pay 200 more than others just to play with the new hardware(not even most powerful than the others) of Apple/nintendo.

Yeah, because that's what everyone wants in a console; the latest and greatest hardware, not the games.

What I'm getting at is that people do indeed buy Nintendo because its Nintendo. The reason is, they know they can't get what's offered by them anywhere else.

Wow, thats good to see for the US at least. It would have been nice to see if this increase is roughly even across america, or places that got hit really hard during the financial crisis are still in the shit.

Overall interesting read, each person on average spend $423 dollars. Which is really enough to buy a WiiU and a game.

My guess is most of those spending would break that up to invest into several presents for family members.

DS, 3DS and Wii price points would be huge swing votes, not to mention the very popular 360 atm in the USA.

Then we also know that every tom dick and harry wants a tablet, so WiiU ends up being significantly lower on the prioity chain for shopper atm.
