Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tomb Raider Will Be 12-15 Hours Long, Lara Will Have Regen Health & Can't Swim

It's sad what the industry is becoming. Now can we complain about casual gamers? Since they're actually harming our experience.

Regenerative health? I thought the game was going in a survivalist direction... :(

I was really hoping for that too. I hate the fact that you can run to cover and hide until your health comes back and then start mindlesly shooting again. Kind of dissapointed. Guess the Last of Us will be the true survival game next year.

The true survival game this year is called ZombiU. I don't know anybody that can survive the game with just one character... at least not in the first play through. No regenerative health, low resources, dynamic zombie encounters (i.e. not scripted/predictable). It's brutally challenging.

I am really looking forward to The Last of Us because the enemies will be intelligent and will be trying to survive and lot of morally ambiguous situations will take place where you kill for resources or defend by killing people that just need what you have to survive.

"I wonder how many users will understand this post"

I got it *High 5*

It's the developers that are killing the industry, in all seriousness. They seem to want every game to be some mixture of CoD and Uncharted, to the detriment of everything that isn't CoD or Uncharted. Unless they're RPG enthusiasts or making a sports or racing game, every developer seems to want to make the same game.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Goddamit. Tomb Raider was always about exploration and then Tomb Raider Legend came out and it became quite a bit more streamlined and cinematic. I thought that TRL had a perfect blend of action and puzzles. Uncharted came out and it was pretty close to Tomb Raider Legend, almost down to the button placement (though it did have the cover mechanics that Tomb Raider never had). Uncharted 2 was much more cinematic but audiences (including me) loved that approach.

Now, it's getting old. Right when many devs seem to be copying the Uncharted 2 style, it seems to have jumped the shark with Uncharted 3 being more cinema than actual game. Now, we have Uncharted Enslaved, Uncharted Hitman, Uncharted Splinter Cell, and finally, Uncharted Tomb Raider. Instead of being a leader in her own genre, Lara Croft looks to be becoming another "Me too" Uncharted Clone.

It's ironic because Uncharted was once the Tomb Raider clone.

Uncharted did things that pushed the medium forward, albeit to a lesser degree than something like Gears of War, which had an entire nation of clones at one point. Now Call of Duty has those trying to replicate its success (a reason I still consider Killzone 2 to be a better game than Killzone 3).

If you have a money-making element, it will be replicated. Has been that way from the moment man was able to entertain for profit.

Agreed.  From the Pac Man/Space Invader clones of the early 80's to the Tetris clones to the Mascot Platformers to the WWII FPS craze to the Kart Racing phenomenon of the 90's and Double Dragon styled "Beat 'em ups" and the Grand Theft Auto clones--if it tastes good going down, expect to get drowned in it.

I guess it's just easier to copy what's popular.

I was wondering how all this uninspired cloning could get even worse. And "raining" wasn't the answer this time. Then suddenly sprang to my mind this abomination: Uncharted Tomb Raider Gangnam Style.

This game was going to be an open-world survival game. Then just a survival game. Now just a game.

Hahaha you nailed it! :D

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
