5 Reasons Why Console Gaming Is Perfectly Fine

1. I like to own games physically, as opposed to owning the license to play them if I've been a very good boy.

2. I hate having to fiddle with graphics setting. On consoles, you know what you're going to get. On PC, figuring out how to best run a game is comparatively complicated, especially if one doesn't want to spend much time or money finding a PC that does virtually everything.

3. Centralization. PC is like hundreds of mini-platforms built into one, and some good games simply aren't available through normal, highly reliable channels. Steam doesn't have everything... yet.

4. Less piracy. If there's one thing I hate, it's people who either don't want to pay to play, or are unwilling to play the game on the platform it was designed to be played on. To me, that's pretty shallow. I'll accept a few exceptions, but for the most part, I despise the rampant piracy on PC.

5. The community. Every PC community, even the nicest communities I've seen, strike me as dominated by people who don't deserve to be within a few miles of the nearest computer. Though to be fair, the Xbox community isn't much better. :P

1) Yes most of the time. However, if you wait long enough console games can be cheap to. Just look at the black friday sales from Amazon and even the MS store. Skyrim for $10? Borderlands 2 for $25? Console games get dirt cheap over time, they just take longer.

Counter point - Steam sales. Steam sales are beast. Hello Torchlight 1 for $1. Hello Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition for $2.50!

Counter point - You'll pay more to upgrade that PC/laptop more often to keep up with better looking graphics.

4) Agreed. Worst part about owning a XBox, for me anyways, is paying yearly for live.

5) Agreed. I'd love for MS to keep BC with the 720/next xbox playing games from the original XBox but I have my doubts. Either way PC has many years of experience behind it. Virtualbox (windows?) was able to get my original Elderscrolls games to work and Dungeon Master. Those games are friggin' old.

You can't really complain when games have beautiful graphics (and I don't even use mods) AND you get games like Portal 2 for 4 bucks.

1. Easily solved by... illegal methods. I'd rather wait until international law catches up to the digital age.

2. I can see some appeal there, but usually I just want the game to run well. If an "Autoset" feature becomes standard, in which the game automatically makes the graphical settings so that the game runs at a consistent, player-specified framerate, I would be as pleased as punch.

3. Origin is a key example, but generally speaking not having a catch-all hub to play everything is annoying. If Minecraft came out on Steam with all the features the platform provides, I would buy it a second time because of the easy voice chat solution. But not every game I want comes to the platform I want. Which is, incidentally, a console issue as well.

4. Ties into what I said about the community. If there's a greater amount of pirates on PC, it's definitely not going to make me feel better about the platform.

5. Truth be told, any very popular multiplayer game will have it's bag eggs. But honestly, there's a special circle in hell for elitists. Pretending to be a smarter, more mature person through display of gaming prowress? That's idiotic. The best PC communities I've seen are for niche games, which aren't necessarily more fun to play from my experience.

Now, I like PC gaming in general. It has a sort of Wild West, every man for himself charm which is both its greatest strength and weakness. It has a leg up on consoles in some ways, but I think there still is a place for consoles in the hearts and minds of gamers.

The Pc is superior in everything but convenience and startup costs. The convenience part is why consoles are here to stay imo

Agree with every one of them. I've recently built a gaming PC and I'm really into it, I now game on my PC as much as my PS3 and 360, but I still prefer console gaming. I still prefer having a dedicated platform that is built for gaming only, with a controller that I can use on the sofa while staring at the big TV, with a more polished and reliable experience, and with all those huge console exclusives.
