Nintendo News: Pokemon Hotter Than Ever

One of the video game industry's most celebrated franchises is officially hotter than ever. Within just five days of availability, more than 1 million copies of Pokemon(R) Diamond and Pokemon Pearl for the portable Nintendo DS(TM) have sold in the United States since Sunday's launch; a faster rate than any previous Pokemon games since the franchise's U.S. introduction, almost a decade ago. To date, more than 155 million copies of Pokemon games have sold worldwide.

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl are poised to become two of the top-selling games of 2007 in the United States. More than one half million people pre-ordered the games before launch. Additionally, thousands of people attended the kickoff launch event in New York, and demand for the games continues to be off the charts. These latest versions of Pokemon games were introduced in Japan on Sept. 28, 2006, and have already been purchased by more than 5 million video gamers there.

The two games include a number of features that make them particularly attractive to gamers, including:

    * More than 100 new Pokemon.
    * A 3-D look that makes Pokemon jump off the screen.
    * Worldwide wireless battling and trading using Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi
      Connection.
    * Voice chat functions that let players talk wirelessly with their
      friends.

Later this year, these two titles will also help expand the Pokemon universe for the first time to Wii(TM), Nintendo's new home video game system. Diamond and Pearl owners will be able to use their DS hardware units as controllers for Pokemon Battle Revolution (launching June 25), the first Pokemon game available for Wii. Players also will be able to export characters to the Wii game.

WOW! Simply WOW.

Again I need to take a stab at Kwaad. But weren't you saying those people lining up to buy Pokemon weren't?

Not only are sales great, but it's sure to drive sales of Wii's in the summer and beyond. And it hasn't even been released in Europe LOL.

I'd be willing to bet that combined sales of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will outsell combines sales of GTA IV on the 360 and PS3. It's going to be very interesting to see how much DS hardware goes up in April in the US. 600k perhapse. Maybe even 650k. We'll see.

Those pokemon games are awesome cant wait til it is out in EU :D

But in terms off the Wii, consoles pokemon games so far have been crap imo.

Although if u can use the Wiimote as a pokeball to throw to capture them it has to be a winner :D

and OriGin u need to calm down, did anyone expect this game not to sell amazingly well, pokemon games are probably the best selling games ever

p.s are DS games multi region, might buy it from america

You're right about past console Pokemon games, but this new Wii version interacts with the DS version. I believe that will create a much bigger crossover effect than previous versions.

Heh... yeah you're right, i edited my post it wasn't necessary, silly fanboy moment.

yeah I've bought both and a guide and cranked in about 13 hours already. I wish they made online easier for people without friend codes. We should actually start a thread on here for any people that want to play pokemone online. The whole underground thing is really cool and adds tons of new gameplay. The one thing I love about pokemon that no other rpg does, despite the insane depth of pokemon and moves, every town has a new element to add to gameplay, whether it be the explorer kit(with digging for gems trading for furniture for your secret base, not to mention all the neat little ds specific gamplay the traps offer), checking stats at the tv station and doing interviews with reporters, photo ops with your pokemon, the beauty contests, the poketech company, the online trading station, the fossil museum, the daycare, the place to breed pokemon, the gambling, the list is almost unending, this is seriously the only game that offers more than a 100 hours of gameplay after you beat it. The huge guide I got for the game too is only Vol.1.
