Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox Live is dying?

As an Xbox gamer, I fully support PS+.

This is because MS might see the potential in actually providing more game related content than useless apps. Not that they dont provide any, in fact I think they have provided the best games online-wise. But more will not hurt either.

And no. Xbox Live grew 15% YOY in active users. I don think thats failing at all. Plus Xbox Live broke its record this year with the most Subscribers active in a week than any other week in XBL history. It broke its arcade selling record TWICE for the fastestselling arcade game. With the release of Trials Evolution and Minceraft XBLA. And it also broke the record for the highest amount of downloads of a downloadable paid game. And from the looksof it, it will MC XBLA will break the most downloaded game in XBLArcade's history.

I dont think thats failing.

Yay!!!

It has only been one guy who said that and he got his thread shredded to pieces No it is not failing and it has 40 million gold subscribers. It is a billion dollar service so no it is not failing.

40 million?  That's nearly the size of the 360 installed base.  Are you sure about that?  It would mean that an overwhelming majority of 360s out there are linked to a gold account.  I have trouble believing that.  Isn't gold actually unavaliable in some regions?

You cant prove that. But based on software trends this year alone, the PS3 install base is even lower....

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

MS is generating hundreds of millions with Live.....

Overall, most things that came to PSN have been on Live first. Now it may not matter but those years where only 360 had netflix or achievements, that meant something. The rare things that Live got after PSN like internet are better then what they offer.

But overall with Live you know in greater depth where your friends are, what they did, and is easiest to talk and connect with them. Live is far more streamlined and just "flows" better then PSN. Oh and cross game chat :)

LOL @ Bold. No way. Where did this number come from?

OT: No, Xbox Live is not dying, but it is falling behind in some areas. Sony started doing Day 1 Digital Downloads for some games, Microsoft hasn't. Nintendo does it for every single game with Wii U. And then there's Playstation Plus. The value there is amazing.

Steve Ballmer and Majornelson.

PS+ has roughly 5 million users and has had no effect on XBL.  I know a lot of people has been hyping it up on this site but the majority of people see no need in owning PS+.

Don't arrogantly say things you know nothing about.

where did you get that number from?

To be honest. in the 6 (7?) years i've had my 360 i have never once payed for a gold subscription. Its an act of theft in my view. You are beeing billed twice for one product (box+live sub).
I am tired of not having online play, so next gen i am most certainly not gonna buy an Xbox if multiplayer is still something you have to pay for. I will be heading Sony's or Nintendo's way.

In my view, i see that as a failure as its gonna cost them at least one console sale. But, we know its alot more, PSN+ beeing alot better is also part of that. Is Xbox live making a profit? Oh yes it is. Is that profit gonna come out in the way of lost sales for next gen? I think it will. We're in a financial crisis and people will choose the best option that costs them less.
With that said, im sure microsoft will try to entice everyone with a lower price point for the system, but how many will fall for that twice? I know im not. I doubt it will be cheaper than a Wii U aswell, and that has free online play.

Its obvious PSN has more users than Xbox live has gold subcribers. Now number of PSN+ subscribers i dont know.

I dont have a PS3 and i see how enticing PSN+ is. I think theres no opposing that fact.

We can never know. The number literally changes every week. Some expire, some get renewed. Some wait a few months before getting another sub. Some only get 3 months of Gold when the next COD and Halo come out.
