Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U - Extremely Slow Download Speeds. WHY?!

are you using wifi?? if you are you should try using your Ethernet port at the back of your console it's much faster

Very funny.

The initial download took me around 45 minutes as well, but I was at my friend's house when i did it and his internet is much slower than mine. I just checked my DL speeds through Steam and I appear to be downloading just as fast as ever, yet Nintendo speeds are extremely slow. Oh well, NSMBU just finished so the crisis is over for now.

I hope this throttling (if that's what it is) stops soon.

Maybe their servers are overloaded with all the people trying to download the patch and all the new games since it's a console launch or maybe this will the speed you will get through the gen, for exemple, it took me 2hours to download the pirated version of starcraft 2 on the piratebay yet it took  6hours for the legit version using blizzard servers and they were roughly the same size

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

My router is pretty damn good, as far as I'm aware. Also, the router is mere INCHES away from the Wii U system, so it can't be interference. If anything, latency would be hampered by a wireless connection, but I don't see why download speeds would be. I'm not the biggest techie around, but eh.

Also, my download speed with other wireless devices (which are farther away from the router) aren't impaired.

EDIT: Damn, it's taking forever to install Mario on my Wii's internal space. It's been installing for 10 minutes so far and it has 5 minutes left. 15 minutes to install, is that... is that normal?

Is something wrong with my console? =/

Are you serious? about a year ago we had a real shitty router for like 2 years and the download speeds on my PS3 were less then 100kb/sec i had to leave my PS3 on over night to download stuff

although now i get about 500-700kb with the new router, i now praise these speeds

The servers are probably saturated at this moment. Remember that this is Nintendo's first entry in a more sophisticated online service, so it's normal to see some issues, specially since the thing launch yesterday.

I guess the servers are the issue then.

Maybe with an external USB HDD the install would be faster.

because..........maybe the internal memory is as fast as the **cough RAM cough** XD

45 min for 1.7 GB? That's nothing.
It took me more than 24 hours to download the 6.2 GB Okami HD file to my PS3. I'm not kidding.

When I saw your thread I took one of those speedtests. It said: "230kB/s (1840kBit/s) download speed", "81 of other users have a faster connection than you" (I'm surprised it wasn't 99%). I need faster internetz. Quickly.

I doubt that it's related, but it seems quite a few people are having trouble connecting their Wii U to their router. I've seen a couple of articles about it. Wireless router, that is, as I don't think anyone is having trouble connecting via the Wii U's eth ... yeah, well, screw you guys.

Also, 3.5 MB out of steam? Only time i downloaded a game off steam, i got 80KBps

Your connection's fault probably.

LMAO!

This is driving me insane now. I put up with the slow speeds yesterday, but still tonight I am downloading things at roughly 500KBps, when I usually have a download speed of 3.5MBps on my PC (with Steam, etc.).

Why is it taking me 45 minutes to download a 1700MB game such as NSMBU? What the hell, Nintendo. Does anyone have any answers or knowledge on this subject?

(1735000KB / 60seconds) / 45 mins = 642.5KBps ... 1/6 and up to 1/7 my actual download speed.

:(

(Pre-emptively stating this: Please don't turn this into a digital vs. physical thread)

I recommend you to not buy any other game from the store.  Because if your console dies, you are screwed.
