Honestly, I never understood why people buy systems when they're getting launched... You pay much more for a console with less features and a veeery small catalogue of games.

The guy who bought a Ps3 in 2010/11 got a lot more bang for his buck than the guy who bought it in 2006/7. Same goes for Wii, and don't even get me started on 360

Impatience! I know that if I waited 1 or 2 months after the launch of every game, I could save myself 40-50% on the cost of games, but new things are exciting!

I don't see why people really expected the Wii U to take that much of a graphical leap, Nintendo is not really interested in that. The only question is when the PS4/720 are released, will it still get "HD" ports? If not, I forsee a similar situation to the Wii in terms of 3rd party support. The concern sales-wise would be, as the review says, that there is currently no killer app for the Game Pad to cause huge sales like Wii Sports did

Its not going to be quite the same. As i outlined in another thread, in terms of CPU/GPU and memory, Wii U is going to be much more similar to the competition than Wii was to PS360, even if the difference is going to be noticeable. Also: Math fact: for the Wii U -> Orbis/Durango gap to the same as the Wii -> PS360 gap, Orbis/Durango would have to host 12 GB of RAM.

Is it though? It isn't just about the RAM and it is not like any Wii U game shows any sort of gap over the HD consoles, I don't quite understand how this would be true.

Looks like im keeping my ps360 until Xbox 3 or Ps4 arrives.

i wond buy Nintendo Console because i love graphics and online gameplay, innovation for me can die i rather play games like UT, Quake or Halo all life long. Sure games need to bring something new but a tablet controller ? Really ? Seems a worse idea than Kinect wich is awfull.

Thats why i didnt bought Kinect, neither Move and neither Nintendo Consoles.

Bring on Ps4 and 720 with amazing graphics that top CGIs!

Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 will be amazing!

I am taking a wait and see approach on this console right now, but none of that has to do with graphical power as I am absolutely content with the level of graphics we have right now. I am just waiting for the software I want and a price drop.

Been burned too much recently with launch window purchases.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

No, but that's part of it. Wii was simply in a different league technologically, with PS360 having more PC-like RAM allotments, but as i said in another thread, a lot of it was about architecture and available features.

The point is that you're not going to get anything like that. Neither in the size of the memory or FLOPS gulf, nor in the kinds of instructions and techniques the chips are capable of executing.

just want to remind you that while wiiU has 2 Gb ram 1 full gig is dedicated to its OS, an aweful lot.  that puts your math closer to 5 Gb than 12Gb of useable ram.  ...not that MSony won't reserve any for OS but i'd wager not as much as nintendo reserved 'cause i understand it a lot of that is dedicated to gamepad support.  superchunks rumor thread suggests MSony are targeting about 4 Gb...so not as large but still quite large.

edit: correction -- 4 to 8 Gb.

I imagine that limitation will be drawn down as the console lives on. Similar to how the PSP's processor was OS-underclocked for about half its lifespan.

i'd hope so. 1 Gb just seems like overkill.

Rol and such can jest that the core doesn't want games that are fun and only play graphics but i think that completely misses the point.  if you ever had a chance to play star wars: force unleashed on both wii and ps360 you'll notice how many concessions had to be made for the wii in physics and AI.  ...the ps360 version was fun, the wii version was not.

gameplay got significantly better on the ps360 from the ps2 thanks to that extra power.  if you have ever played a previous gen game and thought "this feels dated" that shows you how much better games have gotten.  power is what brought us 3D perspective games, sandbox games, massively more environmental interactive games (like AC where you can climb anything).  i want the better gameplay that is inherent with giving devs a lot more power.

that's primarily why i hated my wii. games felt dated, last gen, unimproved, not fun.  maybe i would have not noticed if motion controls were better implemented but after wii sports and mario kart even nintendo seemed to treat it as an after thought.  i didn't really want a 2D mario for wii, i wanted motion control.  I wanted more new experiences, ps3 did a better job at that for me.

anyways, i'll completely concede that wiiU is better than ps360.  but if there is a massive gulf from wiiU to ps4/720 just won't care.  wii was better than ps2/GC too, but my comparisons will be to the current gen.

Status, braginng right, and cause they got money to burn are some of the reasons peopel get it at launch.

For me it is because I got money to burn and because I remember when I was 8 and after moving to a country that had NINTENDO (NES) as a major gaming device well my parents couldn't afford it. My dad ended up getting me a used NES boxed with gun and mario/duckhunt for $50 from a guy who tried to sell it to a second hand (aka used stuff) store but they turned him away because they didn't sell video game consoles.

I didn't even own a SNES when it first come out as it was unaffordable.

My first launch console was a N64, which my parents saved up for a couple months before launching.

Now that they put me through schooling, I got a wicked job and money to burn, so I am making up for all those lost pleasures as a child.

braginng rights lol?

I'm starting to think maybe I should wait instead of risking buyers remorse.

The (slightly) compressed 480p chroma subsampled feed to the WiiU pad is not what I expected.
No optical or digital audio out means I'm stuck with the tv speakers in the living room until I buy a new amp. I haven't used those in the last 15 years. And it seems none of the launch games will be native 1080p now?

Anyway there don't seem to be any compelling reasons to get 3rd party games on the WiiU atm. So I'm left with a $350 purchase for a good 2D Mario game and a gamble on ZombiU. Maybe I should just play Mario Galaxy 2 for now which is still in my backlog.

Guess I'll wait until Rayman Legends comes out.

^ Yup, pretty much.

They force you to eventually by their console with Mario/Zelda and Metroid though :/

As in showing off that you can afford the latest tech gagets. Similar to apple hardcore fans who rush out to get their upgrade every 6 months to prove to their friends they are socially cool

Ah, the xbox720 and PS4... I hope that people here are aware of the fact that, if MS and Sony want to launch a significantly stronger console with a similar control scheme in one year's time, they would have to either jack up the price to $500-$600 (which went great for Sony last time) or sell the console at competitive price, but with a significant loss (which I doubt Sony could handle once again, only maybe MS).

Not necessarily true. You can build a PC today for 200-300 dollars that can completely annihilate PS360 in raw technical power. A 300-400$ console in future 2013 or 14 can be significantly more powerful than today's consoles.

Wrong. A $400 console sold at a loss could easily outperform current-gen consoles in every area.

You see the Xbox 360 is currently selling for a hefty profit, I beleive even the $199 4gig model is making Microsoft money. The PS3 is a different story, with the Super Slim I believe Sony is now making a pretty good profit as well but not as big as MS. The only reason the PS3 is still $250-$300 is because of the tech used inside the console, it is expensive.
