Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Loading times seem to be more bearable on Wii U

A good port!? How dare you say something like that. We all know third parties make lazy games for the Wii U

Since when do Sega screw Nintendo, well apart from missing  games.

Nintendo (as always) took a standard format (Blu-Ray) and modified it ...

Between the drive being 6 years newer than the PS3's Blu-Ray drive and the modifications Nintendo (likely) made to it, I would expect lower seek times, latency and much higher bandwidth off of the disc; which would be seen in reduced load times.

When you combine this faster drive with more memory, it is plausable that another (potential) advantage would be to produce larger more seamless worlds; after all you would be able to stream objects into memory earlier (because you have more memory), and it would take less time to stream them (because you have a faster disc), so there is almost no reason why you would need to have "seams" in your world to allow loading.

So Darksiders 2 has actually longer loading times on the Wii U:

I guess that just proves that you can't take anything for granted when it comes to third parties and Nintendo, even if it seems "obvious". ^^

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Well it will load quicker on the other console if you install it first, i don't see the Wii u having this option.

It is unbearable for some people on the other consoles? You can always install it.

Did you guys watch the video? 360 installed loads faster than 360 from disc loads faster than Wii U from disc.

I thought it would be cool to talk about some games for a change.

So, I have preordered Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and played some of the game with a friend on his PS3. One thing that really upsets me are the long loading times the game has before every single race. So I did some investigating and found that the Wii U Version of the game has significantly lower loading times.

360 footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqsv92fE9aQ

Wii U footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzVwqd4Bp7c

From one blackscreen to the other, the Wii U version needs about 11 seconds to load (0:11-0:22) while the 360 version needs about 24 seconds (3:20-3:44).

Now the comparison is between 2 different modes (race vs. boost rush) but I don't think that the result is too heavily skewed due to this. But maybe I'm wrong. I for one am pleased with this, although 11 seconds is still a little much for my taste. What do you think?

The disk drive is a lot faster.
