That is false. 3rd parties have carried the PS1 and PS2 with big blockbuster releases. PS3, nor PS4 will have that luxury.

OT - Gran Turismo. But I doubt Sony is gonna do that. They let PD take their sweet time.

People keep saying things like that, but they're assuming prematurely. They've had a long development cycle one time with GT5. One event doesn't mean you should expect a continuing trend.

Well the spent 5.5 years getting used to the PS3 archeteture and now they are wrapping themselves around the PS4 archecture. But even then Sony has this policy to let them release the game when its ready. Sony pressured PD to release GT5 one year too early, and the metascore reflected that.

In the end, we don't know, but my guess is just as probable as yours.

1 on 1 Halo and GT are similar. But take into account franchise sales this gen, and Halo dwarfs it.

Perhaps. But the thread concerns games that can push hardware. A game's potential to push hardware is based on it's fanbase size. And Halo and GT's fanbase size are similar. Anything else is irrelevant.

Both fanbases can have the same number, but if one group has 3x the spending capacity......that means something.

They should be fine.

Gran Turismo is a 10 million seller. Uncharted is a 6 million seller. God of War is a 5 million seller. LittleBigPlanet is a 3-5 million seller(not really sure). Then they have plenty of medium franchises like Killzone and inFAMOUS that sell 2-3 million. There's also new Ips and the fact that developers like ND are splitting up into multiple development studios.

Sony actually had an impressive batch of exclusives who could have been used for the PS3. The problem is many of them were released much too late. As well as excessive pricing, etc.

As for Halo and Gears. Halo isn't that much bigger than Gran Turismo. And Gears isn't that much bigger than Uncharted.

How exactly does Halo dwarf Gran Turismo this gen?

He's going to say something about how Halo's total sales this generation dwarfs GT's total sales because GT has only had one main installment.

If Final Fantasy Versus is announced for the launch of the PS4 then yes x 1000! However, on the front of 1st party titles, I'm afraid Sony loses this round. Nevertheless, Sony does have strong franchises like Uncharted, God of War and LittleBigPlanet who cater to more 'hardcore' gamers so I wouldn't count them out.

With Halo having 3 full releases + a spin-off, next to GT's one full and a Prologue, how can you realistically even compare the sales like-for-like and claim one "dwarfs" the other?

I compared "franchise sales". This doesn't take into account how much each franchise released games or even if its fair. That is their problem (the developer).

I am simply stating how much sales Halo got this gen vs how many GT got this gen.

Halo sales this gen dwarf GT. Simple.

Also take into account the number of GT games to the number of Halo games. Not to mention Prologue wasnt a "true" Gran Turismo game, it was much more of a lead up to the real thing.

Best comment I've ever seen you make XD

It really surprises me that Sony decided to keep games like Last of Us, Beyond, and even God of War Ascension on the PS3 this late in the gen.  Same thing with Halo 4 and 360.  If they would have kept these games for the neXbox and PS4 assuming that they're coming soon then they could have pushed alot of units out of the gate.

What makes you think that they won't blow us away with new IP's in the next gen =P. Naughty Dog has 2 teams now which one of them is most likely working on a game. Anything Naughty Dog touches turns to gold (true story). Also if Beyond does well in sales/reviews I can totally see Sony purchasing Quantic Dreams. Heavy Rain was very successful for a new IP and Sony would be crazy not to aquire such a talented studio if this new game does well. Also as I said that the game director of God of War III is working on a new game. Maybe these games are just a glimpse of what is to come on the PS4

QD also have an unnanounced title

As you said Stig is making on a new game at Santa Monica

MM has another new IP in the works in addition to Teraway

Sucker punch new game

Evolution studios now with the help of ex PGR talent is making a game

GG is most definitely making the next KZ

As I said earlier, sony have already set the stage and in a very good position to provide some fantastic first party content.

GG is also making a new IP plus they Killzone Merc for Vita. Damn they're busy =P

Well Kaz said himself that GT6 won't take as much time to develop as GT5 due to the fact that GT6 will use the same framework/engine as GT5.

There's also the fact that Sony stated that they would make their hardware easier to develop. So don't expect the PS4 to be as difficult to develop for as the PS3.

With the known information, expecting GT6 to take as long as GT5 is improbable. If GT5 took 5.5 years, then I expect GT6 will take 4 years, releasing in 2014, only one year after the PS3 launches.

Didnt say it was fair. Just comparing what each franchise brought in in terms of total sales this gen.
