Forums - Nintendo Discussion - First Dragon Quest VII Screens!

Whoa, this actually looks good. Reminds me of the bump up with FF3 for DS.

So. I've never played a Dragon Quest game before (I know, so sad for an RPG fan...)... But as an RPG, how does this compare to the likes of Chrono Trigger or FF6? (My favorite RPGs of the 90s)

If you love SNES RPGs, I can't reccomend Dragon Quest V (DS) enough. I will go to the highest mountaintop and proclaim it as one of the best classic RPGs that didn't get released internationally for many years.

This looks much better than FF3, at least a better improvement. Many could argue that the 3D models they made looked worse than 2D sprites.

Really? I thought this looked fairly charming:

Or is this one of those things that was universally panned by those who played the original NES but I wasn't paying enough attention to notice?

i hope it delivers, cause im playing Tales of Abyss right now and its absolute crap

Don't get your hopes up, because Dragon Quest VII is garbage as well. Not that I played it, but it has an awful job system. And its story can be summed up with "lost son of a kingdom goes on a big journey, eventually discovers his heritage and saves the world after doing pointless errands for a lot of people".

"not that I've played" I hope I am not being rol'ed, but I really disagree here... FFVII is just so massive that you could have maybe 2 or 3 games out if it, and you will not feel cheated by any means. DQ story, oh well, most old jrpgs share the same pattern and the job system was not that bad either. Well that is my opinion :)

Looks good, I wasn't aware that they were doing a full remake of this absolutely titanic sized game. This RPG probably has the most valuable content packed into it out of any I have ever played. While DQ8 on PS2 is around the same length, it has much less valuable content. This is because it is also a much slower moving game due to everything being spread out on overly huge maps. DQ8 might only actually be about 1/3 to 1/2 as big as DQ7 when you cut out that aspect.

So DQ7 is the biggest DQ game content-wise by quite a bit. Although, I am excluding 9 and 10 due to the unique nature of their content. DQ9 has an additional section of the game which includes a few hundred independent quests, mostly occurring after the main story is conplete. DQ9 also contains unlimited numbers of randomly generated dungeons on top of the existing main story dungeons. So DQ9 could theoretically go on forever, but the main story is about 50 hours long. DQ10 is an MMORPG, and in my experience with WoW, they are purely about grinding, an all othe content is just tacked on to keep the customer interested in grinding enough to keep paying for the game again and again, month after month.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Technically, these aren't the first Dragon Quest 7 screens. Dragon Quest 7 remake screens.

Techinically not, because the game is going to be called Dragon Quest VII and not Dragon Quest 7 Remake :P

It was called Dragon Quest VII in Japan.  The 3DS version is just going to be called Dragon Quest VII as well.  So it's still technically.

Although it won't be the same game.  I'm sure that Square Enix will add additional content, so extra dungeons etc.  I've still never defeated God on Dragon Warrior 7 though.  So 80 hours and I still have content I'm missing.  Plus after finishing off God there's even more content.
